About this property

The Governor Cabin

This is the famous " Cookshack " log cabin owned by Governor Lawton Chiles and used for gatherings of state leaders and friends. We have renewed this wonderful cabin as a 2 story, 1 bedroom with a sleeper sofa and a twin daybed downstairs sleeping up to 5. The Governor Cabin has full wrap around porch and full kitchen. It’s simply an amazing natural retreat. Located adjacent to our gorgeous lake suitable for fishing, boating, paddleboarding, and sunbathing on the dock. And located amidst hundreds of acres of pristine fields, orchards, lakes and forests for a full array of activities in a beautiful natural setting.
The Governor is a one of a kind, true vintage cabin but upfitted with all the amenities for comfort- starlink wifi, heated and cooled, custom tub and shower, full kitchen with all the amenities of home.

Total Get Away!
The perfect spot for nature and seclusion! The cabins (there are 2, dating back to 1890) are nestled in the back of an organic blueberry farm, very serene surroundings. The cabin is charming, a “true” log cabin. Huge wrap around porch, lovely bathroom with both a claw foot soaking tub and shower. While it is not insulated, there are several heating options available if going in the Winter. We enjoyed our Weekend while in town for a family Wedding!

Peaceful and beautiful area with wonderful historic cabin
We stayed 3 nights for our anniversary and it was wonderful! Gorgeous property and very peaceful. The cabin is historic (read up on it if you don’t know the background) but updated just enough to be very comfortable. TV, internet (weather can affect it a lot) full kitchen, great tub and nice shower. Covered porch was good for relaxing and we had a fire in the fire pit our first night, which was so nice. We have a lot of respect for the late Governor, so seeing his gravesite along the waking trail was meaningful. Lots of privacy but close enough to go to Tallahassee or Thomasville in a fairly short time. Highly recommend this property if you like this environment - it’s worth it!

Ladies Getaway
We thoroughly enjoyed everything about Jubilee and our wonderful stay in the Governor’s cabin! We had the most relaxing time, walked about 2 miles each morning, picked wild flowers, found some wonderful farm to table restaurants, and had no trouble getting in and out of Tallahassee for the football game. The drive in and out is a gorgeous drive under canopies of beautiful trees. We will definitely be back! Thank you for sharing your property with us!!!!!

Great place to relax
Arrived at night which made finding the cabin a little difficult, but it was fine once I clearly read the directions. Cabin is clean and has all the amenities you need. The property is quiet and peaceful. About 30 min drive from FSU.

Historical
Here's what stood out for me, and what I would want to know before booking: Nice information documenting the history of the property and its owners along with info on the area, including directions to a nearby store. Cafe lights on the porch were on, welcoming us (I brought a projector light for outside that didn't get unpacked). No insulation, places between the boards where you could see outside, yet there were NO bugs and the indoor temperature was maintained with no effort. Beds and pillows were very comfortable (high praise from someone who always brings a pillow from home). Plenty of seating inside and out, 2 TVs, KCup coffee maker and every cooking tool you could think of. We cooked every meal and had no need to use my pantry supplies or tools. For those of you that rent often: the check out instructions were two sentences!!! For some reason, the drive from FSU seemed so much nicer than when we stayed at the Talquin Lake area, I think because of the beautiful canopy road. Great property!

Historic Well Apointed Cabin
We had a lovely week staying in the Governor's Cabin. The grounds are heavily wooded with a beautiful pond near by, adding to the wonderful night sounds while sitting on the covered porch. The cabins are situated in a working organic blueberry farm, which you can experience during your stay. The peace and tranquility is transformative. We throughly enjoyed our stay.
