About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Rustic cabin on Christiansen Lake, Talkeetna, Alaska. Private, wooded setting.
Jo’s Dry Cabin, is a rustic , one room, retreat for adults, at the edge of Alaskan wilderness, great for couples. The cabin sits on a rise, 150 meters from Christiansen Lake. The cabin measures 48sq. meters. A wood stove keeps the place warm and cheery on those chilly Alaska evenings. There is one queen bed. Limited housekeeping service is available. With microwave, refrigerator and dry sink, guests can prepare snacks inside, or opt to picnic and barbecue outside at the campfire ring. This is a “dry cabin”, which is Alaskan for “no plumbing”. Guests may obtain fresh well water at our main cabin. There’s a tiny little throne room behind the cabin for those moments when one needs some alone time. A bathroom, with flush toilet, is available at the main cabin. Shower (fee) is also at the main cabin, and is open to guests 24 hrs. WiFi is not available at Jo’s Cabin. Many guests enjoy a first time experience in our banya - our wood fired sauna. Wood is available for a fee. In summer, there is an outdoor shower next to the sauna. In winter, guests can have a roll in the snow, but most opt to shower at the main cabin! Down at the lake, our dock is nice place to soak up some sun, cast for trout, or launch your canoe. A shoreside campfire ring makes a nice place to relax in the evening. Grill those fresh trout, or melt s’mores - or both! There are often moose, fox, rabbits, or the very occasional bear, about the property. In addition, we have a couple of dogs, and a passel of chickens. With all these critters, wild and semi domesticated, we cannot allow pets. Service animals are welcome, but must be kept under immediate control for their own safety.
Limitless miles of back country trails extend from the cabin door. In winter, cross country ski, strap on the snowshoes, or power off on your snow machine. There is also a maintained bike trail that heads into Talkeetna. Summertimes, hike those same trails to view wildlife, or reach a private fishing spot. For easy hiking, bird watching, or to fill up your berry basket, Talkeetna Lakes Park, just 1K away, has well maintained and mapped walking trails which meander round the lake chain.Talkeetna is about 8K away. The bike trail along Talkeetna Spur Rd heads right into town. Stop along the way to visit our beautiful public library. For a great view of Denali and the Alaska Mountain Range, pause at the overlook, or turn in at the Talkeetna Lodge and pair dinner and drinks with a magnificent from the deck. 🏔️. There are many little eateries downtown. We even have a famous brewery. Visitors can find also river guides, canopy adventures, and guides for back country adventures all up and down Main Street. The Alaska Railroad stops in Talkeetna. Train travel through Alaska is a relaxing way to view great wilderness and wildlife. Weather permitting - always a consideration here in Alaska - flightseeing services from Talkeetna Airport carry visitors over to The Great One - Denali.
Transportation to and from downtown Talkeetna, Anchorage hotels, or the Ted Stevens International Airport, is available.

Misrepresented on website
It is unfortunate that this place was misrepresented on the website. The website said "About your room: accommodates four, two bathrooms, a shower, kitchen." Imagine our surprise when we arrived at a dry cabin that accommodated two, with an outhouse and no shower. When I mentioned this to the owner, he said that the details were in the small print. I rechecked my booking. No small print detailing that this was a dry cabin on our booking site. The mosquitoes were brutal. Would've loved to have had a mosquito netting suspended over the bed as they enjoyed snacking on us all night. On the positive side, the cabin was neat and clean. And the wood burning stove was lovely to use. Just wish the booking site had had the right details. We booked in faith for something that we didn't receive. Disappointed.

Only one flaw, but kind of a big one.
Everything was great about this property except getting to it. The plowed road was just barely wide enough for my pickup. I was told I would have room to turn around at the cabin, there was not. After having to back down a road so narrow both my mirrors drug in the snow banks I could not give it anything more than three stars. We decided that parking on the main road and walking in the 2nd night was a better idea. Anything smaller than an F-150 might not have the same issue.
The cabin was great and very cozy if I could have turned around at the cabin (which I was told I could) this would be a 5 star review.
Mykl, the owner was super nice and friendly and welcomed us right in as we drove up. He had the fire started on our first night to make sure the cabin would be warm for us when we got in. The property is beautiful

Terrific Stay!
We loved everything about our stay! Michael was super welcoming, and it was really fun talking with him about the Talkeetna area, about Alaska in general, and way beyond! Our cabin was very comfortable, and we really enjoyed lounging on the dock, swimming, and watching the float planes take off and land. Access to town was extra easy as we had a car, but bikes would also have worked fine for us. We definitely hope to stay again, and we give Michael’s our highest recommendation!
