J & E Riggins - Inn on the Harbor
Welcome to Inn on the Harbor - Stonington:
The J & E Riggins is a gorgeous 2nd-floor village street-side room perfect for two with a king bed, pull-out sofa, full bath, hairdryer, tv with cable, free wifi, microwave, small fridge, and cozy sitting area. With easy access to the 2nd-floor semi-private deck overlooking the harbor front.
In 2022, after a tough pandemic, we bumped into the opportunity to purchase this “space”. We here at Ohana Inns feel that the solace, surroundings, seabreeze, harbor, vibes, schooners, lobstering, birds and lapping waves make this one of the most beautiful places on the planet. That is what we think about this space :).
You’ll notice that each of the rooms is named after a schooner from the area. So each room is a little different in shape, size, decor, and view plane. They all share access to our centerpiece, which is the mass of deck overhanging the quintessential Maine harbor of Stonington.
We invite you, we dare you, we hope you come down and fill your cup with the Inn on the Harbor. It’s the kind of place you’ll never forget. If you are lucky enough to live within driving distance….. you’ll be back time and time again ;).
Aloha from our Ohana to yours!! We will see you soon at IOTH!
To access the property, our team will provide you with a lock code for the electronic keypad prior to your arrival.
Accessibility: All of our rooms have held shower heads. Shower chairs are available but they have to be requested prior to arrival so please let us know if you need them before your check-in.
At Ohana Inns, we are available 24/7 through call, text, or email. When staying with us, you can expect total privacy but a quick and prompt response should you reach out.
Here are some good restaurants and coffee shops that you can check out: Fin and Fern, Acadia House Provisions, 44 North Coffee, Harbor Cafe, Lily's House, and Stonecutters Kitchen. (Please check off-season schedules with each restaurant. Many places could be closed during off-season months).
To do your groceries, you can go to Burnt Cove Market (about 1.5 miles away) or take a short walk to the closest market (but smaller) Harbor View Store.
Please consider bringing your specialty groceries, although we feel that the Burnt Cove market does have a pretty good selection, it doesn't have everything.
Stonington is located on Deer Isle and can be reached by car via Route 1 from Bangor or Bar Harbor. The town has its own small airport, Stonington Municipal Airport, which offers daily service to Boston. If you're coming from out of state, the closest airports are Bangor International Airport and Portland International Jetport. When coming to this property, guests have the option to arrive by boat or car.
We recommend that guests have a personal vehicle for running errands and exploring the area, although Uber/Lyft/taxis are available.
The closest airports are: Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport (BHB / KBHB) Bangor International Airport (BGR) Augusta State Airport (AUG) Portland International Jetport (PWM)
Here you can enjoy the views, the distant foghorns, the breezes coming off of the Atlantic, the working lobster harbor right outside of your window and an authentic (not too touristy) experience. You can park the car, hop on the mail boat and hike all day on Isle Au Haut, grab some Kayaks and tool around the harbor, go see a show at the Opera House, nosh on top-rated food at the Fin and Fern, explore the quaint shops and pier and crack a nice bottle of wine on the deck at the end of the day.
Yes, you can stay here for Acadia! Yes, it's a little more of an arms-length from the craziness of Bar Harbor but we think it's the perfect home base for the REAL Acadia adventure and true 'Maine experience'.
From Stonington, you can still reach Mount Desert Island and the major Acadia attractions. Top-rated Puffin tours also leave from Stonington or you can explore the trails of Crockett Cove Woods or roam the art gardens of Nervous Nellies after buying some local jam. Inn On The Harbor, Open Hearth Inn, and The Gust House are all locally owned and operated by Ohana Inns. Ohana means family and when you stay with us you'll see why we call everyone Ohana. If you have any questions about this listing or any of our other properties, inquire or call and we will make sure to find you the best spot for your vacation/adventure.

Spring vacation
My family of 4, kid's aged 18 & 16, planned a trip for April vacation and to visit Acadia National Park. We stayed in the Isaac Evans. The room was spotless, and exactly how it was described. The hostess was incredibly helpful and the welcome lobby had everything you cocould possibly need. I would love to visit again when everything is open in the areane

Comfortable and Clean
We enjoyed our stay and found the bed to be very comfortable, the room is a good size - comfortable for 2 adults, the location was amazing, we were able to find our room and park with no issues. We were pleasantly surprised to find two local restaurants right next door, and a small convenient store. Everyone was friendly. We thought we had an ocean view but faced the street instead, even so we were able to get out on the deck and view the harbor.

Quaint and Quiet Harbor
We had a lovely time walking around the streets of Southington ME, although my husband thought he booked a place in Southington CT. Only a 6 hours of traveling difference. BUT, we had a peaceful time in the in the beautiful harbor. Thank you for your kind hospitality.

Great room and stay
The listing is very accurate, the location is very convenient to a good restaurants and the beach. The porch has a great view and we used to have dinner or just hang out. Parking on Pink street is very close so is okay it doesn’t have its own parking space.

Great location and view
As advertised the location in Stonington is close to food and activity and views from the deck are awesome. The room itself was a bit dark and hot but cooled off with open windows and fans running continuously. I was comfortable enough to use the balcony as my sort of personal room extension.
