About this property
Historic 1900s Ship Smith Cottage... A Patriotic New England Inspiration!
Your journey into Mystic's maritime history begins here!
Transport yourself to Mystic's shipbuilding heyday at Smith Cottage. This adorable, open-concept, pet-friendly, two-bedroom retreat in historic Old Mystic captures the essence of a bygone era.
Nestled at the head of the Mystic River, it offers a perfect base for exploring the coastline and Mystic Seaport. With Colonial nautical charm and 21st-century comfort, the Smith Cottage invites you to experience genuine New England hospitality.
A HISTORICAL STAY
Built by the relatives of one of the original families who settled on the east side of Mystic River, the 1807 Williams Home property oozes with history and character! Located in the original colonial settlement of Mystic or Head O' the River, the Smith Cottage at the 1807 Williams Home property is a short ride- two miles to sightseeing and Mystic eateries.
The history buff in you will love the story behind the Smith Cottage and the 1807 Williams Home. The Smith Cottage started out as a blacksmith's shop in the early 1900s and was named in its honor.
The main house was originally known as the Wayside Inn~ a regular stopping point for stagecoaches on their New London-Providence runs. On January 17, 1840, former Secretary of State Daniel Webster, traveling by sleigh, stopped in for a drink on his way to the Groton Ferry to catch a boat to New York! If only walls had ears, imagine the stories they could recount! Perhaps if you slow down, you can hear the walls whisper words of the past!

Our property next door to the 1807 Williams Home & Smith Cottage, the 1784 Denison Home, offers 5 guest rooms, all named in honor of these five vessels at the Mystic Seaport. The Carriage House, our newest offering behind the Denison Home in Old Mystic, has rooms themed after historic people of the time.

Debbie and Paul were lovely hosts to communicate with. I have never been in a cleaner guest home. The hosts were so caring, and left us a delightful treat, as well as gifts for my pup which she loved! They made sure all of our needs were met and that we were comfortable. Perfect accommodations
From booking to check-out and everything in between, our stay at the Historic 1900's Ship Smith Cottage was exceptional. Homemade apple pie on the table, and soothing music playing in the background greeted us when we walked in.The beds were so comfortable and we both slept well and woke refreshed. We enjoyed easing into the day with groceries we purchased ahead of time. The Keurig, pods and cream gave us the boost we needed to be about our day.Everything was clean, comfortable and so well maintained. The weather wasn't cooperative so we didn't get to spend any time out doors. We did take a quick walk around the property and wished we could have enjoyed a fire at the fire pit.Debbie is an exceptional host. Honestly, it was hard to pack up and leave after three days. However, we have family in the area and look forward to staying here in the future.Thank you so much for everything!!Stephanie and Mike

A little piece of Americana
Every year, we give our children a Christmas adventure. This year, our accommodations were part of the adventure and my children loved every minute. In fact, they were begging to "go back home" whenever we were out seeing the attractions. We can't wait to return.

Exceptional Stay
Our family spent New Year’s Eve at Smith Cottage and enjoyed every second of our stay. Pulling into the driveway and seeing the wonderful front porch and the warm inviting light emanating from within the cottage gave each of us a smile. The decor is exquisite Americana, complete with giant blacksmith bellows and myriad nautical delights. A true slice of deliciously curated heaven. And the cherry on top: Debbie is an absolutely fantastic host! She made us feel welcome from booking throughout the duration of our stay. We look forward to returning soon!Note the loft steps up to the second bedroom are rather steep, though our 4 year old managed them just fine.

Storybook stay
Enchanting week staying at the Smith Cottage with my partner and canine old boy. Immaculate is an understatement for the cottage-it was beautiful, cozy and it is mind-boggling to me just how attentive, intuitive and thoughtful our host Debbie is. I cannot wait to return next September. Everything both inside and outside this property was great, including the beautiful fire pit under the harvest moon at night. Thank you Debbie, for a much needed wonderful stay.

Charming Stay in Mystic
The cottage was absolutely adorable, filled with nautical antiques and cozy fabrics and furniture. The kitchen was appointed with everything we could need, including plenty of coffee. The owner is attentive and thorough. We were able to easily access Mystic attractions and nearby hiking areas. The cottage was very clean and welcoming, with lights on and music when we arrived. Note that there are two sleeping areas, but they are not walled-in bedrooms, so light and sound travels between the sleeping areas. Our kids loved sharing the loft space and there were books and toys for them to use. We absolutely loved this cottage and our stay in Mystic, highly recommended.

The most perfect, cozy spot ever!
A friend and I stayed overnight to celebrate a milestone birthday. Even before we arrived I could tell we were going to fall in love with the place! Debbie is beyond fantastic! She communicates promptly, is there to answer any question, and is just an absolute pleasure. Ok, now to when we arrived. From the moment we pulled up I was certain we couldn’t have picked a more perfect place. I really have no words to accurately describe how well thought out it is. Details upon details, special little touches, imagination and thought used throughout! My friend and I were blown away! The house is not only aesthetically fantastic but everything is super clean and comfy as well. We did not want to leave, like ever! Debbie has an incredible gift and has found her calling as a host. We will be back 100%! Thank you so very much Debbie. We are your biggest fans! Counting the days until we can return!

Warmth and charm abound
This was just a remarkable experience. The center of all is the caring of the proprietor whose goal is to create a magical stay for the guests. Greeted by an incredible apple pie and delightful personalized notes on small blackboards throughout the cottage, there is a sense of visiting family. Debbie is ready to help in anyway possible and we got great joy in sharing pictures of our family outings. The cottage itself is beyond well equipped: from coffee, honey and spices to picnic baskets and beach towels to name a few. I was especially taken for all the activists for children. Even though we were traveling with teenage girls, they were tickled by the toys and games. They also loved sleeping up in a loft, away from pesky grandparents where they could chat at great length!! We enjoyed exploring all the historical memorabilia that had obviously been so loving ly collected. In our 60 years on the road, I cannot recall any place with such a combination of warm hospitality and charm. Thank you.

Charming and delightful!
The cottage looked great online and it exceeded my expectations! I was delighted by the Americana decor, and everything we could possibly need was provided. Naturally the apple pie was a wonderful treat as well! Head and shoulders above a motel but also better than every other rental I've ever stayed in. I'd give it six stars if I could (or maybe 48 stars like a vintage flag.
