Important Information Before Booking
Bear-Proof Trash Bin: The bear-proof trash bin is located next to the driveway. Please use this bin for all trash and make sure the lid is securely closed after each use. Bears are a natural part of life in Tahoe and can be attracted to unsecured garbage. Properly securing your trash helps protect both you and our local wildlife.
Winter Travel: When visiting Tahoe in winter, be prepared for mountain driving conditions, possible road closures, and delays in snow removal. You’re booking a mountain getaway, so come prepared for changing weather and road conditions. Our snow removal crews work every day, but we have no control over the county road snowplows. This street is not a primary plow road, so clearing may take longer. Four-wheel drive and/or chains are always recommended, and smaller, low-profile vehicles may have difficulty navigating snowy conditions.
Power Outages: Tahoe can experience power outages during snow, rain, and wind events. Lanterns are provided for your convenience, although availability may vary.
Air Conditioning: Like many homes in Tahoe, this home does not have central air conditioning. However, a portable A/C unit is provided in the upstairs loft for added comfort during warmer days. Our mountain climate typically offers cooler temperatures in the evenings, so we also recommend opening the windows to let in the cool mountain air and create a cross-breeze throughout the home. Just remember to close them again when you head out!
Quiet Hours: 10:00 p.m.–8:00 a.m. Please respect quiet hours and remember that this home is located in a residential neighborhood with full-time residents nearby. Parties and disturbances of any kind are not permitted.
Hot Tub Use: In accordance with El Dorado County regulations, hot tub use is prohibited between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Please plan your relaxing soaks accordingly!
Maximum Occupancy: 6 guests. Children ages five and younger are not counted toward the occupancy limit. Occupancy limits are enforced at all times.
Parking: Maximum of 3 vehicles, with additional room for a boat trailer. The driveway is moderately steep.
Rental Agreement: El Dorado County vacation rental regulations require a signed rental agreement prior to check-in. The Guest of Record must sign the agreement and keep a copy with them during their stay.
Guest of Record – 25 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER: The person making the reservation and signing the rental agreement must be at least 25 years old, must be staying at the property for the duration of the reservation, and is responsible for ensuring all rental rules and occupancy requirements are followed.
Permit Information: El Dorado County Vacation Home Rental Permit #: VHR22-0565
Guest Access: Guests have private access to the entire home for the duration of their stay, including the home's designated outdoor spaces and amenities. This is a private residence, not a shared accommodation.
The Neighborhood: Reindeer A-Frame Cabin is located in Christmas Valley, a scenic mountain neighborhood known for its peaceful setting and natural beauty. The area offers a wonderful mix of outdoor recreation, with nearby hiking and mountain biking trails, winter opportunities for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, and easy access to the beautiful scenery and fly-fishing spots of Hope Valley. Whether you're looking to explore the surrounding mountains, enjoy the outdoors, or simply unwind in a quieter part of South Lake Tahoe, Christmas Valley is a lovely place to experience Tahoe in every season.
Getting Around: For skiing and snowboarding, Heavenly Ski Resort is approximately 20 minutes away, Sierra-at-Tahoe is approximately 15 minutes away, and Kirkwood is approximately 30 minutes away.
The beaches along Highway 89 are approximately 20 minutes away, including Pope Beach, Camp Richardson, and Baldwin Beach. This area also offers scenic walking trails, the Tallac Historic Site, and many other favorite Tahoe destinations.
Golf enthusiasts can enjoy several nearby courses, including Lake Tahoe Golf Course, Tahoe Paradise Golf Course, Bijou Municipal Golf Course, and the scenic Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline.
Looking for nightlife? The Stateline casinos, including the area's gaming, entertainment, and nightlife options, are approximately 20 minutes away by car. Uber and Lyft are also available in South Lake Tahoe, offering convenient transportation around town and to popular destinations.
Other Things to Note: Pet-Friendly Home: Pets are welcome with prior approval! Please keep pets off all furniture, clean up after them both inside and outside the property, and keep dogs leashed when walking through the neighborhood. Reviewer Comments:
We loved staying in this home.the views were incredible. Very private, quiet and peaceful. We will definitely stay here again.
Our first night the hot water didn't work, the fire place didn't work, the oven didn't work and if we tried to use the jets on the hot tub it tripped a breaker. In the morning a repair man came and on day 2 we had hit water and the fire place. The cabin was clean and it was a beautiful location.
The cabin was very comfortable and had everything we needed. It was in a nice quiet rural location where we could enjoy the peaceful mountainside and take our dog out on nature walks. Conveniently close to lots of pretty hikes to the lake and waterfalls. The mattresses weren’t super comfortable and the AC are portable units that have to go into a sliding door which was a little inconvenient. Would recommend!
Overall had a lovely stay. My only comment is that it took 2 full days to get the hot tub to temp - wish it would have been left at a better starting temp. Other than that, the cabin was perfect for us and our pets. Thanks.

We had a great stay in this little hideaway right outside of South Lake Tahoe. Easy road access, a blazing gas fireplace, a new kitchen and clean hot shower all played a role in a wonderful time. Such a blessing to have our pup along for the family snowball fight right outside. Good times.

This place could use some tlc. The slider is very hard to open, screen door doesn’t close. Dirty windows, ledges. In need of painting inside and out. Deck in need of repairs/paint. Feels very dark and dingy inside
Overall the property it self is great, especially if you're looking for the cabin/tahoe experience. However, what is not advertised and what was not communicated by the property management team was the driveway access. The driveway to the property is very steep and curved, and with a four wheel drive SUV and chains, I could not get up the driveway to the house due to about an inch plus of ice on the driveway. The property management team did not clear the driveway and we were forced to park at the bottom of the driveway in the street and carry all our belonging up to the house. After multiple attempts to communicate with the property management team they never sent anyone out to clear the driveway. I lost half day of my visit trying to get my car unstuck from the driveway. I would caution anyone who rents this house in the winter time.
My hubs, I, and our two ridgebacks absolutely loved this place! We have been coming to Tahoe for a decade to hike. We generally like to rent a different place for a new experience, but I think we found the ultimate adventure home, so we will be booking again next year if available. The gorgeous A-frame abuts the forest so you can relax in privacy. It is situated perfectly close to the Tahoe hikes, but also close to our favorite places near Kit Carson and Markleeville. Even though I always bring my dogs w me, I hate dog hair and normally end up cleaning the cabin upon arrival, but this place was spotless. The jacuzzi was super clean, and while we didn’t use it, the place also comes with a sauna. You can take a short walk into Meyers for food on a dirt trail that connects to a bike trail. You do not hear a peep from the neighbors, as the property is on 2 acres. I felt the previous reviews about the snow in the driveway and the stairs to the place were not fair. The reviews made it sound like you had summit a giant driveway and multiple staircases. Possibly if you are of advanced age or suffer from a severe disability, then the stairs or driveway would be problematic, but the reality is that Tahoe gets snow in winter and they had 600 ft this year. Occasionally there will be weather challenges in the mountains, but it should not be something to dissuade you from this incredible cabin. Loved LOVED this place! Thank you for hosting us!

Reviewer Comments:
We loved the location absolutely perfect, quiet area, but close to everything, hiking, boating, good restaurants. The house was ok but in need of some basic maintenance. 3 out of 4 of us got splinters due to the aging none painted rails. Also the advertising picture is deceiving since it was taken from the back of the home, it did not show 30 something stairs. The mattress on the main level had an odor that was slightly bothersome, in need of some baking soda to neutralize the odor. Sliding glass door was in need of a new track so opening, closing, locking was an issue, And finally it didn't really matter until the evening but we could not get regular TV to work and 2 out of 4 of us are fairly electronically techy. Would recommend with our knowledge of its downsides. It will help us know what questions to ask next time. We will most likely use the same company as they were very attentive and able to fix the two things we called about. They also recommended great pet friendly trails....
We chose this place because it was pet friendly and had a hot tub and sauna. It lived up to exactly that! We had a very relaxing stay and our dog loved it too!
I recommend you ask ahead of time if the Wi-Fi, hot tub and sauna work. The DocuSign they require does not guarantee those amenities work and they don't offer any refunds if they don't.
The Wi-Fi did not work while we were there and there were known issues about it when I reached management to get it fixed. The 24/7 management was quick to help and did get it working for short periods of time via remote troubleshooting on the phone but it didn't work consistently.
I felt that the DocuSign from the management company (not the owner) was a bit excessive. It was littered with additional fees for just about everything. The DocuSign was 9 pages long of detailed rules for the guest and exceptions that released them of refunds (ie - amenities not working). It even puts liability on the guest if someone breaks into the house while you're there (which is what insurance is for). Unfortunately, these over the top short stay contracts are all too common with Vrbo and similar stays these days but is part of the deal I guess for a unique vacation rental.
Other than the uncomfortable DocuSign that took some of the excitement away from our stay before we even showed up our stay at the cabin was very relaxing and exactly as advertised and we will definitely come back to see what it's like in the summer when all the snow is gone!
