Very convenient for the seafront and shopping. The food is really good when its waitress service and the staff couldn’t be more friendly. However when the evening meal is buffet style the standard goes down, probably because of the amount of people they are serving. The starter was really good when a set menu but very poor when buffet style. The breakfast was really good every morning even though it was a buffet. The staff were super helpful and friendly in the bar and restaurant. The hotel is Victorian with the main areas well decorated. However our room was really tired and not clean enough, the room edges were covered in dust. It was a bonus to have a mini bar fridge in the room. We had a dog with us and I’m guessing this is why we had a really old room. however we’ve been to many other dog friendly hotels and have had some wonderful rooms. I recommend that you book direct with this hotel as we booked with a supposedly ‘best price’ company and paid considerably more than charged by the hotel directly.

Arrived at hotel seen to by a lovley gentleman, unfortantly the rooms hadnt been cleaned. However concierge offered upgrade for free so cant complain. Dealt with professionally. Rooms need a major upgrade all outdated but fantastic lobby and bar with the classic english look. Would stay again as it beats the sister hotel the grand.

Spring treat

Wasn't bad but not great for disabled. 1 of lifts was broken. Theres a disabled door at the left from the entrance. Go up slope n you gotta try n hold door while dragging yourself in a wheelchair up the slop. If door opened on its own be good. Clip broken to keep door open. And that side lift was broken. Had problem with the slope n door on both our stays

Not for us

Went here instead of the grand to try, dont get me wrong we knew not to expect anything just like we do at the grand.. cheap cheerful somewhere to change and sleep.. arrived and was booked in very quick. Went to the room and first look seemed ok till we looked at the bed, unfortunately mattress protector was covered in some stain which you could tell hadnt been washed, same marks also on pillow cases. Then the mattress itself was i can only explain as the 25 quid mattress you get for a 2 year old the blue ones. I wouldnt of been bothered but laying on it ment you had springs in your back. The marks totally put me and my partner off it was simply disgusting. Ceiling looked as though it was caving in and so did the walls. Reception was good was going to sort it but i asked for a room change couldnt stay in there. Room.was a downgrade as such haha not sea view no settee smaller room but the bed was better. Unfortunately its the last time we go here. Knowing its old, it does smell old and fusty too which was not nice. Back to the old grand we go dont get me wrong either thats not great but one thing is the bed has always been clean and comfortable.

Disappointing stay. Stay away.

The reception staff were excellent. Very professional and very polite. However, the room wasn't upto standard. The bed was uncomfortable and broken. Both myself and my wife, have been bitten by either bed bugs or fleas, as the hotel is a pet friendly hotel. The heating was on full and turned the room into a sweat box. There was an alley way at the back of the hotel, which kept my wife awake during the night. The bath had mold around it and was very unclean. The shower gel despenser was empty. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, but after the first nights sleep, we decided to come home. Very disappointed with the stay overall, as the hotel looks a beautiful building on the inside.

Break away from bigotry

This is one of my favourite hotels to stay in Scarborough despite it being owned by the Britannia group of hotels . Where I live there is a lot of bigotry towards LGBTQI + people so I decided to take a break away from local bigots for a few days The lovely reception person saw how stressed and tired I was and as I love a high floor I was upgraded to the Gordon Suite, room 502 on the very top floor of the hotel . Bar a television without an antenna or a remote in the bedroom I had an excellent stay away from people in order to get my stress levels down . I enjoyed the upgrade and was well away from others which was just what I needed. Stayed many times at the Royal and I’d recommend it over the sister hotel the Grand .
