Served our purposes well
We cared about location more than anything else. We wanted to be about half-way up Lake Seneca but with walking distance to a town. We really liked Penn Yan & from there, we could get to the walks and hikes we’d planned easily. The 19th century house itself has been nicely restored but there are some things that would’ve made the stay more comfortable. Specifically, more towel racks in the bathrooms, as well as places to put toiletries (shelves?), and add bedside tables on both sides of the beds. The window coverings could provide more privacy. Maybe add a chair in the bedrooms as well. Be aware that there are 2 steep staircases to the 2nd floor bedrooms. One other thought: although the massive couch in the living room is good for many folks, having another chair with a stronger upright back would be good for people with back problems. The kitchen was newly remodeled, up to date & had everything we needed to cook. All in all, it’s a nice house in a location that was great for us. Penn Yan has lots to offer: an older town with modern shops (restaurants, pottery & other arts, local wares etc.,) lots of working class history including its own walk along what was once a working canal between Seneca and Keuka Lakes. There are wineries that are a short drive away too. The house was a good center point for a week or two in the Finger Lakes.
