Nice hotel - could be even better

Nice hotel, well situated. My main criticism was the heat in the room. It was like a sauna and there was very little that could be done to cool it down. Breakfast was...ok, not great. Couldn't fault the service. Everyone we encountered was lovely and very helpful.

Good stay close to the heart of Oxford

Stayed 2 nights in a two single bed room. We booked 2 rooms for my family of 4. Firstly the location was excellent for us. Just about a 5 minute walk to the heart of Oxford. The rooms are a bit dated but I have to believe that is fairly standard for Oxford. Cleanliness was again OK. The 2 single beds were interesting. One was very soft and the other was firm. So you will get a variety! We did call ahead for two rooms together but then was told one of the rooms was undergoing maintenance. Also, I believe there was a lift but we never ended up using it. I think we actually stayed on the side without a lift but it was only a few floors so not an issue for us. Overall, the stay was comfortable and without any issues.

The bathroom in our ensuite had an aroma of effluent. Night staff were advised but nothing was heard of this again so assume nothing was done about it. Outside the hotel in Merton Street there was a drain with the same problem. There was a continuous sound of a working airconditioning , maybe..?? so sleep was a problem
