Peaceful Lakefront Retreat with Views

Enjoy a relaxing getaway in a cozy cottage nestled into the towering white pine trees at Balch Pond. Sip your morning coffee in the screened in front porch overlooking the lake as the sun dances off the water. Settle in as the loons swim by beckoning you to join them in a refreshing swim in the pristine lake. Enjoy your time fishing, walking in the woods, picking blueberries, swimming or kayaking then lay back in the hammock with a good book as you listen to the gentle waves lapping up against the shore. Senior and kid friendly, the lot is level with two docks and the lake is a mere 15 yards across a sandy, private front yard. The wooden dock has a ramp and steps into the water. Only an hour drive to the ocean or enjoy a scenic drive to the White Mountains. The private, semi secluded cottage sleeps 6 with 2 bedrooms each with a double bed, living room with fireplace and pull out couch, kitchen, dining room, updated bathroom, screened in porch with sitting area and picnic table. Also included: Onsite parking, fully stocked kitchen necessities (guests provide their own meals), coffee pot, sheets, towels, fireplace and wood, free Wi-Fi, tv, dvd player, washer, rowboat, blow up kayak.

This wonderful cottage does not have central heating nor insulation. The fireplace is great at heating the living room. We provide a space heater and electric blankets for cool nights.

Peaceful Retreat

We had a great stay even though the weather wasnt the best. Just sitting listening to the loons was wonderful. Thank goodness for the electric blankets we needed them. There is one small electric heater & we could have used another. Already booked the last week of September & can hardly wait.

Back in time

My sister and I took our 90 yr old mom for a relaxing 4 days and it felt like we'd gone back in time. The cottage was well thought out and sturdy when it was originally built and has since been updated (microwave, washing machine, updated bathroom). We spent hours sitting on the deck on the edge of the lake, looking across at the island (which blocks the view of some of the houses so you can imagine that you are one of only a few families on the lake). We swam from the deck, just walked down a few stairs into the water. The screened-in porch was ideal for meals and afforded great views. We used the canoe and stand up paddle board every day to explore our quiet end of this lake. On the one really rainy and cool day, we closed off the living room, curled up and read for hours to the sound of the rain in the cozy warmth provided by the space heater. The loons' haunting wail echoed down the lake every day and night, so beautiful. The story of the cottage is displayed on a wall in the dining room and it felt like we were part of history just by staying there.

There are many aspects of this spot on the pond that are wonderful - the history of the home, the original interior and the porch... but my favorite is just hanging out on the dock in the warm sun with a book and the view.

Cold for August, but no rain!

We like to stay at waterfront cabins because we fish. The cabin has a wonderful waterfront deck AND a dock! As well as a screened in porch, where we ate every night. We were inside more than usual, but thankfully there is tv, internet and board games available. Overall an enjoyable stay. (although the fishing was lousy - not the owners fault. Thanks, Mother Nature!)

Great spot and the camp had great dishes! For a sleep 6 there were only 3 bath towels and shower liner should be replaced. Propane tank was somewhat low and told don and Brenda to let property manager know..we may run out but never heard anything. Due to the rain we were ok. Loved our second summer stay!

My husband’s resting heart rate lowered appreciably during our 9-day stay here — which says a LOT! We had hoped to de-stress and that’s just what happened. Every morning I took my coffee to the wooden deck on the water (just a few steps from the house) and did some bird-watching and -listening. I counted bald eagles, great blue herons, turkey vultures, pine warblers, pileated and hairy woodpeckers, both red- and white-breasted nuthatches, etc…. and of course my favorites, the loons, didn’t disappoint. The whole family spent much time paddling and boating around. I noticed the new kitchen faucet—nice improvement. We are in love with the lake here—looking forward to next summer!

August Balch Lake Week

The cottage, steps away from the lake and flat grounds was perfect. We loved the quaintness but still had modern amenities. The kitchen had everything you needed from eating/cooking utensils to array of dishes and cook ware. Took advantage of using the paddle board and swimming. Family friendly. Lovely screened porch to enjoy. Close by is Cindy's Place for great breakfast and general market has little bit of everything. Sarah was great and very responsive. We would definitely stay here again.

Cottage on a very quiet lake.

The cottage was just as described. The choice of docks was wonderful...one shade, one sun. The screened in porch was the real hit. Morning and evening we thoroughly enjoyed it. Great dining choices and a terrific market nearby. We are already thinking about next year!
