I really like the European style rooms. It was nice to have the bay view room too while the Mendocino music fest was happening. I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed my stay as much if I wasn’t facing the water, so thanks for that. Would come back.

A touch of elegant history

We had an amazing historical suite. The bathroom was huge. The main bed was huge but the tall height of the mattress made it almost impossible to get in and out of bed. The room was really only set up well for two people. We had three with only one light blanket for each of the two bedding areas. Mendocino is chilly so sleeping was a cold experience. There were also only two towels. They probably would have given us more towels and blankets but we were too tired to realize it would become a problem. The hotel itself is amazing for history buffs. It is beautiful and makes you want to learn more about history of the region. Then there is also the big swing on the second floor deck overlooking the bluffs and ocean. We really loved it in spite of the sparse linens. My granddaughter basked in the huge tub.

all about the location

The Mendocino Hotel is located on Main St in Mendocino, though the big old building is closed (as are all the restaurants and anything but the front desk). Very light on services (keurig coffee in rooms and lobby, couldn't find more than one key for our room) but the rooms are comfortable and the location great. Can walk along the coast and down to a beach. Parking available for the rooms separate from the main building--about a block away. Good price, especially given the location.

The property is gorgeous, but the bed felt like I was sleeping on a piece of lumber. My daughter's bed was equally "firm" with the added feature of a permanent indentation in the center that she could not escape.

Great old hotel that's rough around the edges but that a small bit of renovation would't fix. Heard that a reno is in the works so hopefully won't destroy the old-time ambience. So don't expect a banal Wyndham experience, instead a throwback in time.

After booking my room, and apparently not reading the details close enough, I come to discover that the English rooms are a bit different than normal. They have a shared bathroom in the hallway, meaning anyone who has an English room will be using the same toilet and shower in the hall. A very fun little surprise! There are multiple bathrooms, and even on a busy night, there was not once that the bathroom was occupied when I had to use it. They were also very clean and I felt very safe and comfortable using the shared bathroom, even though I was unsure at first. And yes, it is a private bathroom, very similar to one you’d have in your own home. The rooms were small, with no tv or any amenities other than a sink and small closet, but for a night or two that’s all you really need. However the door to the room that we had did not lock. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and novelty stores within walking distance from the hotel, however I wish that there was a convenience store of some sort, because the closest one is a 20 minute drive. Other than that, it was lovely and such a fun & unique experience for such a great price, with a beautiful view outlooking the ocean. You definitely should try this place!!

Excellent location with easy access to beach, Headlands State Park coastal bluff trail and the vibrant downtown shops, restaurants and bars. But the hotel itself needs attention. Our garden suite was large and had a newly-renovated bathroom, but the bathroom counter was cracked and we had an ant problem. The bed was comfortable but stark - a sheeted mattress over exposed box springs. Our antique light fixture had burned out lights and the room smelled a little musty. No breakfast option (the hotel restaurant and bar look amazing but closed for Covid and have not reopened). The hotel charges a premium rate and we had hoped for more. We will not return.

Older property, we were in a garden view room - no view of garden. Windows were dirty, drapes falling apart. Not enough plugins in the room. King size bed was comfortable with good pillows. Shower was nice too.
