Very poor check in experience. WHY do they provide machines to self check in, but staff come and stand by you watching you do it? It’s so non-personal. I want to be welcomed to a hotel with a smile and a personal check in experience, but no, nothing. I didn’t have any interaction with the staff, I didn’t know where to go to my room, I didn’t have a clue where, or what time breakfast was available. The room itself was fine, very hot when I arrived but air con worked well. Comfy bed and everything else was good. Breakfast tasty and plentiful so no issues there. Just get back to a personal check in!

This stay at the Clayton Hotel in Manchester City Centre was a total let down especially when I had such a comfortable and enjoyable stay at the Clayton Hotel in Galway. The bed linen on my bed was too small for a king size bed. I slept for four hours and awoke to find that the bottom bed sheet had travelled half way down the mattress from the headboard. The result was the mattress was not covered with sheeting which is most unhygienic especially if another guest using the room before me was also forced to lie on that uncovered mattress. I was lying on a mattress on top of the mattress protector. For reasons of hygiene, hotel beds should be made with "hospital corners" to ensure the mattress is fully covered whilst in use - to obviate the situation of which I complain. I had intended staying at the hotel until the check out time after taking breakfast there. When I was unable to get back to sleep, I left at 6am without breakfast in order to take the early morning train home. When I checked out, the clerk asked if everything was alright. When I said it was "dreadful," and explained why he replied, "So everything was OK." Unbelievable. This might be the standard that one expects in a dosshouse but it is not the standard one expects in a four star hotel.
