The apartment , ( 30m²/325 sq. ft) is on the second floor in an old 19th century typical Alfama house. 2 flights of (quite old) stairs to the apartment.
There is a lively cafe in our square that is open in nice weather.
Lots of sun in the day and cool for sleeping in the night in summer. Sleeps 3.
A small balcony looks out on the tiny streets of this old neighborhood.
Very convenient to all the sights. It is only a 5 minutes to walk to the Castelo Sao Jorge and 3 minute walk to the famous Feira da Ladra (flea market), and a 5 minute walk to the River Tejo, with restaurants with seating looking out on the river Tejo. 15 minute walk to the downtown shopping neighborhood.
And, you can travel around Lisbon on the delightful, picturesque electric tram # 28 which is a 1 minute walk from the apartment. It is a 5 minute walk to the Metro Station in Santa Apolonia Train Station. (Lisbon's main terminal) In the station is a Pingo Doce supermarket open until 10PM, very convenient!
Parking for non residents is nearby. There are various public parking places near-by. 5 minutes walk. Please inform me if you will be driving to Lisbon. I will help you with parking suggestions.

The apartment sleeps total 3 people. Has excellent Wi-Fi. It has a small separate bedroom with a double bed, ( for 2 people) a sunny living room with a double sofa bed, and dining table.

A kitchen with Coffee/sugar 2 coffee makers, (Moka and French Press) gas stove top, microwave, fridge, toaster, clothes washing machine, electric kettle. ( there is no oven)

The apartment is equipped with cable TV (English, French, German, Chinese, CNN, BBC, Portuguese and other languages and many movie channels). A full bathroom with shower. Hair dryer.
We supply liquid hand soap and Portuguese soap.

** For "extremely tall" people, be aware that the ceilings are not very high in bathroom and kitchen. It could be inconvenient.

In winter time the apartment is heated with electric heaters and there are fans for summer cooling.
We provide sheets, towels.

Excellent in every respect, as long as you are aware of the stairs (only 2 steep and narrow flights) and the challenges of staying in the wonderful Alfama area (definitely not flat). Elli is fantastic!

This lovely apartment in an old building in the heart of the Alfama was a superb base of operations. Elli is one of the most incredible hosts and was extremely helpful to us. The apartment was not luxurious, but rather very clean, simple and thoughtfully equipped with things like guide books (very useful), espresso maker with coffee (deeply appreciated), and even a sofa bed which was made up just in case of any sleep problems. Elli is fantastic! Steep stairs are briefly challenging, and of course, the Alfama itself is not for the faint of heart. Great location to the metro and train station is a plus.

It was difficult to get to and the stairs were old and steep. The entire building was old. The gas did not work defeating the reason we wanted an apartment rather than hotel. Outside was very noisy til wee hours of the morning. Owner attentive but her service person was on vacation so gas could not be used. Very dirty outside as well.

The Couer d'Alfama apt is very clean and cozy with a well supplied kitchen and had everything we needed for our four night stay. It is very well situated, truly in the heart of the Alfama. A short walk down is the busy waterfront and many transportation options. A short walk up are some great restaurants and larger markets. Several gorgeous viewpoints are a few minutes walk away as is the no. 28 tram. The bar/restaurant downstairs stays open late and can be noisy, but if you close the windows it is quiet. Ellie was a gracious hostess, sending detailed directions on getting to her place, even meeting us in the evening to walk us over. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Our hostess Elli was very helpful with lots of information and tips about visiting Lisbon and getting around. We appreciated her friendly manner. Our experience at this VRBO was very authentic and a great location to get a feel for life in Alfama. And I was very clean and had everything we needed. It was amazing!

As advertised, clean second floor, convenient to tram, resaurants and shopping.Only drawback, it's right above a bar next to some stairs where teesn hangout and it's noisy 9-midnight. Otherwise, a comfortable stay.

Great location!

Very clean. Perfect for the two of us. Ellie is a great hostess and very communicative. The narrow stairs are well lit for carrying up your suitcase. The window locations and fans cooled the rooms down nicely for sleeping. Kitchen seemed to be well stocked, we used the fridge to keep water cold, but otherwise ate out. We loved this location. We explored the city by foot, tram and metro. Great restaurants, markets and views all around. We would definitely stay here again.

Vibrant and full of life!

The Alfama is legendary and what way to experience this vibrancy other than staying in the heart of it?Ellie was a very gracious host making sure that we were comfortable and happy. The accommodation was exactly as advertised. The stairs are not for the faint of heart but the owner makes that very clear before hand. The neighborhood can be a little noisy but it was an Easter long weekend so that also is to be expected. I would stay there again - absolutely! Thank you, Ellie!

My young adult son and I recently stayed at Ellie’s delightful flat, located on one of Alfama’s secretive laneways a ten-minute walk from Santa Apolónia Station. We can’t rate it highly enough. This was our first visit to Lisbon and we arrived by train from Évora. Ellie’s directions were impeccable and she met us at a cafe close to the flat, took us upstairs (the flat occupies the third floor of a narrow, four-storey building with stair access) and explained everything we needed to know. She also suggested non-touristy places for dinner and exploration, including the nearby Saturday market, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Her communication with us from the moment of booking was outstanding; it gave us peace of mind ahead of check-in. The flat is cosy, spotlessly clean and well-appointed, with pleasant streetscape views and easy access to nearby cafes and supermarkets. I slept in the main room and my son on the double fold-out couch, which he says was very comfortable. The kitchen has a washing machine; there are lines on which to hang your washing outside the kitchen window, European-style; it was raining when we did our load so we popped into the laundromat a few doors down to dry it. We did a lot of walking, but the property is easily accessible to the train, trams and bus. I would recommend Ellie’s place to anyone keen on an authentic local experience - and I plan to head straight back there should I have the pleasure of visiting Lisbon again.

Amazing location and lovely host!!

My friend and I stayed in Lisbon for the first time and this apartment is the ideal location! It is very walkable with many restaurants around and close to the city. Metro and buses are also an easy walk away from the apartment. Ellie was an amazing host with great communication and the check in process was very easy. She was also very helpful with letting us know things about transportation and the city of Lisbon. Would highly recommend staying here!

Great Alfama Location

Located on the second floor of an old Alfama building, this is a great location to experience a real Portuguese neighbourhood. It is also close to the rail/bus/tram routes which makes it a great base to explore. Ellie was a great host and we loved staying there. Thanks for everything!

Ellie is an extremely gracious host and did her best to be flexible to accommodate me. Slight mix-up at check in because I didn't get data in timely fashion (carrier's issue). Very accurate description of the location and hilly nature - if you are fit, is quite easy to navigate to use subway system.

Only young people should stay here

Beds were not comfortable, no closets to put away clothes, stairs were dangerous, this apartment is more suitable to only 1 or 2 young people. Hot water was very finicky . No couch or place to sit as the futon was made into a bed. Great location and host was in communique as she lives in the same apartment complex. Neighborhood was noisy.

Great location as a base to explore Lisbon.

Nice tidy suite in the heart of one of Lisbon’s oldest nieghbourhoods. Close to the excellent Lisbon Metro as well as regional trains. Ellie was a gracious and very helpful host who always had time to answer our questions, and with advice and direction on places we wanted to visit. Highly recommended. This is a hilly neighbourhood and we definitely managed to get our exercise during our stay.

Excellent correspondence and mixed experiences

Works well: Location: near Tram and bus stop and the port in the heart of Alfama. The church De Fora is a good landmark for pickup and drop off. Communication: Ellie is very responsive and helpful with what to do, how's and pre booking correspondence. Adequate space with a renovated bathroom and general supplies. Works not as well: Hard to locate address: It's hard to find and access. Cars cannot take you straight there. Steep narrow stairs 2 flights up with luggage can be challenging. Heat: visit during the heat wave. Warm despite the fans. Left windows open, but noises from below got intense like an echo chamber even with ear plugs. When windows can be closed, it's better. On demand water heater. For people unfamiliar with it, water temperature was hard to control.

Great location. Loved Old Lisbon.

Location was perfect. Walkable distance from everything in Old Lisbon. Ellie was very thorough and informative and was easy to communicate with. The apartment is very cute, simple, and “old”, on the second floor, be sure you can walk up and down stairs. The trolleys came in handy to check out other areas and Uber is fast, easy, and inexpensive to/from almost everywhere. Highly recommended.

Comfortable coziness

The apartment in the heart of the Alfama allowed us to enjoy our stay since it provided easy access to a variety of sites in the old town (even if getting to some of them reminded us what it was like to have to climb hills when we were fit!) With a small grocery about ten steps from the apartment, we were able to get breakfast essentials and snack items. Nearby shops featuring arts and crafts meant that getting our purchases back to the apartment for packing safely were also a plus. Also, Ellie and her staff gave us excellent restaurant suggestions that gave you good chances to further appreciate Portuguese cuisine. Finally, Ellie and her staff were very available to provide helpful answers to our questions before we arrived.

Wonderful stay in Alfama

Fabulous location and atmosphere in ancient Alfama. Good restaurants, including a nice Fado place, excellent transportation access. A great place to stay for an authentic Lisbon experience in a very old part of town full of character.

Hilly Alfama

nothing fancy but as stated in ad. Although stated area "hilly," was not prepared for degree of climb. But in this part of the city it seems you climb hills in all directions. We are in our mid 70,s but we navigate and walked a lot without major problems. I would not recommend any wheeled suitcases, as the cobble stone streets will destroy the wheels. If we travel to Lisbon again we would probably stay in a different part (Flat) of the city if possible. But with that said, trolley, restaurants, and sites were all within walking distance. Overall the place was a good bargin
