Unforgettable Oceanfront Stay and Warm Hospitality

Our stay at the Pestana Carlton Madeira Ocean Resort Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine warmth and professionalism by the staff, who went out of their way to make us feel at home. The hotel’s location is perfect—just a short walk from Funchal’s charming center, yet peaceful and right on the ocean. The views from the rooms and terraces are breathtaking, especially at sunset. We particularly loved the choice of swimming pools: the large sea-water pool with direct access to the ocean was a highlight, while the indoor heated pool provided the perfect retreat in the evenings. Breakfast was outstanding with a wide variety of fresh fruits, pastries, and local specialties. Every meal we had at the hotel was beautifully presented and delicious, with attentive service to match. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, offering all the modern amenities while still maintaining a relaxed, island atmosphere. The beds were especially comfortable, ensuring we woke up refreshed each day. What truly sets this hotel apart is the staff’s dedication to excellence—they consistently went above and beyond to ensure every detail of our stay was perfect. Fantastic hotel , rooms were big and very comfortable. Buffet breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and very tasty in all fairness. Plenty of pools so you're not stuck for beds or parasols which is not the case in a lot of hotels. We had a great time on the 'Abba night' we felt it was spot on and well worth the cost, the food was very tasty and the drinks kept flowing the staff didn't hold back fair play👌 My only word of warning is that you pay quite a lot of money to stay at the hotel so I was quite shocked when I realised they were applying a 10% service charge to drinks at the bar, drinks at the poolside and at the pub restaurant, this is something I've never encountered before in a hotel.I raised my issue at the reception desk only to be told I didn't have to pay it if I didn't want to and to tell the staff next time. 10% may not seem a lot but i would've liked to have been made aware there was an option to pay it or not.

The location was great but the room was very average. The bed wasn’t comfortable and the room temperature was HOT. There was also NO parking for the rental car

Well presented Hotel, with lovely Pool Gardens and Public areas. Helpful and friendly staff. Great location, short walk into Funchal. Only negative was that the room was sometimes noisy, as there was an inter-connecting door, so we could hear the people in the next room. Would recommend.

Don’t feel like it was 5 stars! We stay at one of the suites in the hotel. We could hear next door chatting and snoring! Not worth the money. Breakfast wasn’t great. The customer service via phone was slow when we try to communicate when next door was being nosy no one pick up the phone. Also the hotel doesn’t have any quiet time during night. When we arrived no water was in the room. So the best arrival was not a good impression

Our room was a little more dated than we expected from the pictures, and we weren't expecting to be right on the level of the main pool. But the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, and we loved the variety of pools and proximity to the ocean.
