We were traveling with our 2 year old, 4 year old, and 6 year old, and this house/property was perfect for our family. It’s on 2 acres and the grass is very well maintained. Plenty of room to throw a frisbee, football, play wiffle ball, etc. and a lot of these games are at the house already. There were some board games and card games at the house as well that were great for the kids. The house was plenty big for our family of 5. Our 3 kids slept together in the bunk bed room, so we ended up with an extra bedroom we didn’t even really use! The pictures don’t really do the living room justice. It’s bigger than it looks. We played on the floor in the living room with the kids as a retreat from the sun during the day. The kitchen is well stocked and you have beautiful views of the lake from all rooms of the house.
It’s about a 10 second walk to get down to the water where there’s a sandy beach area for the kids to play in, a dock to walk out on, chairs, and a storage bin with life vests and floats. There are some big trees around this area that provide great shade during the afternoon. The water is plenty warm enough to play in (we were there in July) and the kids LOVED chasing around the minnows and catching them. The water where you enter the lake is very shallow for hundreds of feet out into the lake. My 6 year old walked probably 100’ out and the water was barely above her waist. The bottom of the lake where the kids are playing is a soft, sandy bottom, very easy on their feet and no need to wear shoes. The kids jumped off the dock into very shallow water, and enjoyed swimming around. We were happy it was a safe environment so we didn’t have to worry about them “getting into a deep end” or anything like that. My 4 year old was also playing here without a life vest and only our 2 year old was wearing floaters just as a precaution.
Some things we did in the area were almost nightly trips to Granny’s Pantry, which is a local ice cream/candy/fudge shop in Battle Lake about 4.5 miles away. There is also a cookie dough bar right next door that’s a good spot as well! In this same area, there is a Dollar General and a supermarket that sell all the groceries and things you could possibly need. It was very convenient having these stores less than 10 minutes away. There are also a few restaurants in this area, but we mostly ate at the house. Also, there is a local coffee shop right at the front of the property; a 20 second walk.
