8/10 Good

A very positive experience overall! The staff were great and the rooftop terrace was a wonderful place to watch the sunrise. The breakfast buffet was fine, though nothing to write home about. The room was comfortable, though even with the windows closed the noise from the street was very audible. (I had one of the rooms facing the street, though, so this may not be a problem for all rooms.)
The beach towel rental is convenient if you didn't bring your own, but be aware that for the same price (250 pesos), you could just buy your own beach towel in town.
The location is about a 10-15 minute walk from both the town center and from the ADO bus station, and across the road from Ecoparque Bacalar, which is one of the lake's few public access points. It's a great location if you want someplace a little quieter and closer to nature, while still being convenient to the town center (if you don't mind a bit of walking).
As a side note, be aware that the primary image used on this page is not representative of the hotel nor its view. While the view from the roof is beautiful, it does not provide an unobstructed view of the lake, nor is it from this height. (City ordinances in Bacalar require that no building be taller than the trees, so the only places with unobstructed lake views are those directly on the water; the image shown on this page is likely a drone photograph).
Altogether, I had a very nice time at Hotel Tuparenda and would happily stay there again!
