We had an incredibly relaxing experience at this remote cabin! We enjoyed visiting the antique shops in town and KC collections. We wanted to visit the swimming hole and go fishing but did not get a chance so we will definitely be back for a longer stay. We had the most fun hanging around the cabin by the fire pit making s'mores and in the creek catching critters. The cabin itself is rustic and cozy and I thouroughly enjoyed all of the imperfections showcasing how primitive the original cabin truly was. We absolutely loved staying here and will definitely be black again. Just a few things for those to note for those looking to stay here. Both bedrooms are located on the second levels. One up stairs and another up a ladder. The couch is comfortable to sleep on in the living room and the oversized chair in the dining room is as well for those who may not be able to access the upper levels. With only one bathroom make sure you are comfortable with those you may be staying with or don't mind peeing in nature. When visiting the creek bug spray is a necessity but so worth it. As 36 year old mother of 2 girls, 7 and 9, showing them how to catch critters in the creek like I did as a kid was the highlight of my experience.
Let me share with you the things that worked:Your grounds are very beautifulThe shower is amazing The TV was goodThe bed was lumpy but comfortable enoughThe washer and dryer were greatThings that didn’t work: I have pics and videos to share as well. The porch was very dirty with lots of bird poop. The fan was totally filthy, I did not use.The outside ice chest was filthy and I did not use. The fire pit was filled with random tree branches, I did not use.I am an old lady, this should have been cleared out! The grill was caked with other people’s food. I did burn it off and use. The microwave did not work. It started smoking and smelling when I tried to warm my coffee!! I unplugged and did not use.The pots and pans are slick with greasy handles. It took 2 days for the air conditioner to cool off the bedroom enough to even sleep there. I had to sleep on that dirty couch. The furniture and rugs have never been cleaned, very dirty. The noise level was distracting with construction across the road. The neighbor next door rode his bicycle by at least 20 times, always looking, spooky!I left a day early. You really need to have a deep clean on that beautiful old home!!I was disappointed in my stay in Buchanan. For the kind of money I paid, I was expecting some kind of compensation for my inconvenience.
