A hidden gem of a hotel. Beautiful building, lovely surroundings. My only reason for not giving it a 5 across the board was that there was a private party in one of the function rooms. Not an issue in itself, however I felt the staff were stretched quite thin as a result and the service was quite slow at dinner, to the point that we had to keep trying to find someone to serve, get the bill etc. Other than that, we had a great time and it wouldn’t deter me from coming back

Not so good housekeeping

Checked in Thursday for a wedding over the weekend. Room very clean to start with but housekeeping over the next few days had to go to reception as only bins emptied and bed made. Nothing else was done and tea and coffee not topped up cups and glasses not cleaned or changed. Had to ask for toilet rolls and more towels. Stayed in an upgraded room but the service was way below what I expected. The night time bar service was poor. One girl doing her very best and suits just coming and going doing their own thing even though at one stage 4 people were waiting to be served and were ignored by a man from management who didn't even acknowledge their existence. Will not stay again . Access road leading to hotel in dire need of having all the potholes fixed and signage for hotel entrance and car park really poor if you arrive after dark

Quiet stay

Very quiet location for a relaxing stay. My room was warm and had plenty of storage cabinets. The bathroom was okay but desperately showing ageing. Breakfast included a good variety of food despite gluten free muffins.

Hotel in beautiful setting

We stay in this hotel at least twice a year when we visit family who live very close by. Lovely setting, large car park. Hotel rooms - some are looking very 'tired', others have been redecorated and very nice but all a good size. Bathrooms clean but could do with an upgrade. Breakfast good. Staff friendly.

Set in lovely surroundings. The room was spacious and clean and I slept really well. Breakfast was a little disappointing and it felt like everything hot had been microwaved and was overcooked. Other than that, it was a very pleasant stay.

sad & tired

we had a adapted room as we needed a walk in shower. The tap,on the washbasin was faulty, the facilities were tired looking. There was only one chair in a twin room. Although an adapted room it was at the end of a corridor furthest from reception & dining, but closest to the emergency exit!

Cheap and (a bit) cheerful

I stayed at this hotel as I was attending a murder mystery evening. I paid for a standard room, which was huge, and didn't cost too much money so perhaps I should have adjusted my expectations. It was very dated, the carpet so old that it had wrinkled up in multiple places and I tripped over it several times. There were no plug sockets next to the bed, and the only place to plug in the hairdryer was several meters away from the mirror, so very impractical. The bed was comfortable enough for one night. The bathroom is dated too and not very practical. The bath was so narrow that if I'd pulled the shower curtain across then it would have wrapped itself around me. The only other option to have a shower meant the bathroom flooding. My room was quite noisy and overlooked the refuse yard so when all of the glass bottles were taken out at midnight I heard the crashing. I also must have been near the plant room as there was a constant loud hum. The food we had at the murder mystery was pretty good. Breakfast was decent too, except when we asked if more hot food was being brought out we were told that the chef only refills if when completely empty. We pointed out that that reasoning meant our table wouldn't be able to eat at the same time as there wasn't enough for everyone. Eventually the server agreed to get enough fresh hot food so we could eat together. I don't think we should have had to fight for this! Overall the stay was ok. Would I return? Probably not.

Needs some tlc

The hotel had a couple of leaks coming from the roof and buckets on the floor along the holiday - would need some attention. But otherwise a very pleasant stay!

A country pad near Filton

Beautiful location, in the country yet so close to Filton area. Large hotel, in an old country home, with quiet wing(s) and overlooking a large English garden.

Lovely building, friendly staff, great breakfast, easy parking and plenty of it, lovely smelling toiletries in the bathroom. Only negative for me would be a bit more attention to detail on the cleaning, overall it was good but there were crumbs all around the bedpost when we arrived that hadn’t been dealt with. I’d like to believe it was just something overlooked as the rest of the place was spotless but in the interests of objectivity, I couldn’t ignore it in my review. It wouldn’t put me off coming back :)

Avoid

Very tired and work hotel that is in major need of investment. Booked for a double room, got a twin, so had to wear socks in bed as I’m 6’5” and the room was freezing. Also now in garage getting a £450 quote to replace wheel damaged by massive potholes in the drive. Worst nights sleep in years.
