The hotel was ideal for a short stay and all the staff were very helpful, nice and accommodating. The food from the restaurant was really nice, the Sunday roast especially. The breakfast wasn't great value for money, it was nice, not for that cost. My only issue was with the lack of soundproofing which meant that I could hear everything from the bar downstairs and the music from the kitchen.

Overnight Stay at The Slate

We stayed in room 5, it was clean, cosy, warm, with a comfortable bed. Large shower cubicle, soft towels, complimentary toiletries. Nice view from the window. We had an evening meal, large portions, a bit pricey but absolutely worth it.

The Slate is a lovely place, clearly a lot of thought and care has gone into the decor. Everything was spotless and well looked after. I stayed in a single room that matched the photos perfectly and was surprisingly spacious (always a welcome surprise). The shower water pressure was excellent too, much better than most places I’ve stayed! The location is fantastic — quiet, safe, and ideally placed for exploring Snowdonia, Bangor, and Anglesey. I even went to Barmouth and whilst it was a bit of a longer trek, it was still easy to get to. It is a bustling venue, so you have to expect some noise, I didn’t find it too much at all though. The nearby Trainline was also not troublesome. My only downsides were that smoke from pub-goers outside the front drifted into my room which was a bit overwhelming at times. Parking could also be tricky during the evenings/weekend - some sort of ‘reserved spaces for hotel guests’ system would make a big difference as it was a little frustrating getting back in the evenings and not being able to find a spot until someone decided to leave. Overall, very impressed with the venue and I was very happy and comfortable here ☺️

Had a fantastic stay at The Slate. Staff are excellent and very handy having the restaurant and bar downstairs after a long day travelling. Note that rooms are on first floor up a staircase, no lift. Well appointed and cosy room with modern bathroom amenities. Would definitely stay again.

Main reception is combined with restaurant and bar customers, not very personal welcome. The staff did welcome us kindly, but the access through common areas and kitchen waiting staff traffic was awkward. The steep and high steps too were uncomfortable to ascend and descend with or without luggage.

Birthday treat

I booked the hotel as a treat for my partners birthday. I felt the food was a little pricey for the choices available. Also we were quite a bit away from anything so if we wanted to have a drink together we wwre a bit stuck on places to go. However the room and amenities were great adn staff helpful.

Cosy, friendly hotel

Nobody on reception when I arrived but kept entertained by locals in the bar until someone arrived. Room was lovely - comfortable and clean. Sink a little small. Nice that the receptionist called me when I was out to check I had the door code and to take breakfast order. Breakfast was good. Convenient location for Bangor

The Slate Hotel offers a pleasant stay in a convenient location. The property is exceptionally clean, and the staff are both friendly and attentive, which made our visit very welcoming. We stayed in a family room (Room 8 – Pont y Pandy) on the first floor, which featured two comfortable double beds. One point to note is that the railway line runs directly behind the hotel, with trains passing approximately every half hour in the evening. While this did not affect us significantly, lighter sleepers may wish to be aware. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the area, being just 20 minutes from Llanberis and the Snowdon Mountain Railway, and within easy reach of Bangor and the main train stations. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay and would not hesitate to recommend The Slate Hotel.

Location was good, hotel was lovely apart from the noise of the railway line. For future this should be recorded on your booking info, the window didn’t open much and the room was too hot to sleep

Pleasant place in lovely location

Lovely little place with plenty of outdoor seating for a drink from the bar. Good location for getting around sightseeing. Breakfast was good and staff were pleasant and polite. Room was nice with ample wardrobe and draw space. Only downside was the room was very hot and the fan didn’t make a great deal of difference. Due to heat in the room we couldn’t shut the window and the noise from the kitchen extractor and the railway line immediately behind caused some sleep disruption. Would stay again but would ask for a different room.

Room was pristinely clean. Beds were comfortable. Nice en suite bathroom with good shower. Facilities to make a hot drink were replenished on request. Staff were friendly without being intrusive. Didn't eat supper in the restaurant because veggie options were limited. Breakfast was awesome. Would definitely stay there again and recommend to anyone wanting accommodation in the area. Very close to Penrhyn castle and Bangor centre.

Great life find

A great find and amazing value for money for the single room available for my stay. The only downside is the nearness of the north Wales mainline train service, if you are a light sleeper. I was conscious of a passing train at around 0530 but went back to sleep. Food was excellent - both dinner and breakfast.
