The original port of Napier was located in the area of Ahuriri, just beyond the buildings visible on the right of this photo., and was known as the Iron Pot port.

This port area has now been superseded by the Breakwater Port, and Ahuriri is home to mainly pleasure boats and inshore fishing vessels, and the old warehouses and stores are now home to restaurants, bars, cafe's, offices and apartments.

It was very peaceful this morning standing watching the stars fade and the sun rise, and people arriving to take their boats out for the day.

The constellation of Orion is visible in this photo in the centre of the sky.
