it's rough camping

Pros: Quiet
rough camping includes lots of dirt, dirty beds, open tents with only 2 strings to close it but animals still get into your tent (like racoons!!!!) I guess it depends what you're into and how much you have to rough it. The raccoons getting into our tent throughout the night made it hard to enjoy. The rest of the camp is nice. Again, depends on how much you want to rough it.. as a mom, it's hard to overlook the super dirty beds that we had to scrub off before putting our sleeping bags and the tables, etc. Fearing the hantavirus was another thing to worry about as well..

Not as nice as real camping

Pros: you get to stay in the park
Cons: Noisy, no privacy, dirty
This is beds on a dirty concrete patio with a partial curtain in front of them. You are given a dirty locker where you must store anything with a scent to it. I didn't even feel comfortable changing clothes because of the lack of a proper curtain. The community ladies bathrooms were not cleaned on a regular basis and the sanitary trash was overflowing for days. Almost impossible to get to the top bunk. The provided "ladder" was not very usable. Pesky squirrels are everywhere including in your dwelling.

A unique experience right in the park.

The tents are very basic, but a step up from camping with mattresses plus electricity and lights. Great location in Yosemite Valley and beautiful views of the park.

This was a nice experience.

Pros: beautiful scenery
Cons: too cold
Glad I had a chance to stay back here in October 2010, but not sure if I would do it again. Next time I would like to stay in a yurt or regular cabin. Being that you are not really inside a room, the floor is very dirty and you are subject to the cold which was not comfortable for me. But I did enjoy Yosemite. I would only recommend staying here if you are really into camping. Guess I'm not.

We had a great family experience and the view is gorgeous

We loved staying at Housekeeping! We found that we were able to experience all of Yosemite and feel as if we were camping without actually camping. The sites are large enough to store all the gear that you may use (bikes, inflatable boat, cooking gear, etc). Bedding is provided if needed, or you can use your own sleeping bags. There are plenty of bathrooms that are nearby and showers are all within walking distance. General Store is also within walking distance. From Housekeeping you can walk or bike to most point of interests. I would recommend staying at Housekeeping if you want to experience camping without having to setup tents.

Housekeeping Camp

My friends and I were happy to be in Yosemite, but I don't think I would ever stay in the Housekeeping Camp again. I would much rather be in a cabin with four walls. Or at least an enclosed tent. It was very cold and the beds were awful. I'm glad I had the experience to stay there but next time I will look for a yurt or cabin. Also it really isn't very private. It is like staying in a "duplex" with your neighbors just on the other side of a wall that has no ceiling. You can hear everything. So I would prefer more privacy. Also on the bunk beds be sure to bring your own ladder because unless you are a pole vaulter and very athletic you won't be getting up on the top bunk. Or unless you have a very strong person with you like one of my roommates who happened to find an enormous rock to step up on and get into bed.

Noisy, smokey, like camping in the middle of a city

Few of the modern conveniences of standard hotels, none of the quiet expected of camping. The tents have many holes for mosquitoes to get in. The door appeared to be a heavy duty shower curtain. The deck area is nice. There were a lot of people camping here and we were near the top of the hill, so we were inundated with smoke. It was hard to breathe at night time. The showers here were public, so be prepared to wait in a long line, even for the men's showers. If you can get one of the tents near the river, it would probably be a lot nicer. The location was good and it was easy to hop on a bus to get around the valley.
