This is quite possibly one of of my favourite hotels we have stayed at in the uk, the staff are welcoming and friendly, the food exceptional and the room, which was one of the rooms in the annexe was spacious and really clean. Will definitely be making another trip here.

We were put in a room in the basement directly below the entrance to the hotel, we threw our bags in and went out for the evening but coming back it was like a herd of elephants stampeding over the roof very difficult to sleep shame as hotel was really nice

Birthday stay

Upon entering the hotel, there was a very grand feel to it. Check in was quick and staff seemed friendly. The standard rooms were clean and comfortable, with a nice powerful shower. The service when asking for things was a little slow, but it must have been a very busy period. The pool and hot tub areas were decent! The breakfast was mediocre. There was a nice birthday touch with a card and a free drink. The gardens surrounding the hotel were beautiful and it is an ideal location as it has everything nearby. Overall, the hotel was a clean and comfortable stay, offering chargeable parking on site, and a pool area to relax in.

Okay hotel, but not a luxury stay by any stretch of the mind. The reception and common areas have obviously received a very nice renovation, but the room itself was ok only, and there was unfortunately an unpleasant humid smell emanating from the bathroom throughout our stay. Breakfast buffet was ok but not amazing and amenities were nothing special. On the other hand, the room was quiet and the bed was comfortable.

Location was perfect. Jorvik center, the dungeons, the shambles were all within 15 minute walking radius. Breakfast was a decent buffet. Good swimming pool and facilities.

Expensive overall

The service from the staff was excellent but the room was poor quality overall. This was not through any fault of the staff or cleaning but some design flaws like a poorly designed level access shower so drain smells would come up as there was no trap. Also the mattress was really hard. The main hotel and gym/spa area was lovely though.

Beautiful original Victorian hotel, bed rooms were well equipped, clean and modern facilities. My only criticism would be they were rather bland & a statement wallpaper as a feature wall or in the panelled areas would have lifted them to a different level!

On arrival we were greeted well and directed to our room where we were first struck by the heat. I tried to activate the air conditioning in the room but it would not turn on. It was faulted. This was reported to reception who assured us an engineer would attend to it. On our return later that night, the A/C was still not working but I noticed a huge Dyson fan was provided. Unfortunately this did not have a remote with it so our options were full speed (noisy hurricane) or off. Sadly the remote for the TV was also absent. First night was akin to being in an air fryer. The A/C fault was reported again the following morning along with the lack of remotes. On our return that evening, the remotes had been provided but the A/C was still not working. It was clear that on a Saturday night it wasn’t going to be fixed. A room change would have been very welcome but it wasn’t offered.

The staff and lounges were beautiful but the room was very small, dark with lots of faults including a cracked toilet seat which is very unhygienic. Tiny window overlooking the train station roof and one double glazing panel was missing. Lots of areas with paint missing and bathroom door that wouldn’t close and had a big area of white filler, probably where the handle had been. Very disappointed with room.

We had a lovley stay at the Milner, our room was really nice however some of the furniture was damaged and would bennift from being replacement but our overall stay was lovley Our superior room had a beautiful big bathroom, very relaxing couple of days....

Amazing hotel! Conveniently located just next to railway station. Close to York’s historic town centre. Milner York is a very elegant hotel with great leisure centre, bar and lounge area. There’s a Beautiful cantilevered stone staircase. Would recommend 100%.

Great staff & the hotel down stairs and around the grounds was beautiful. Once got to our room we were a little dissapointed - very small room, mould on bathroom ceiling, no lighting in half the room so couldnt see when ironing or to use full length mirror & couldnt hang clothes due to the kettle etc being directly under hanging rail. Dispite these things the room was clean and exellent location.
