Terrace room we booked looked out directly into diners and drinkers a few feet away so blinds kept closed. Room was clean but needed a refresh as furnishings tired, walls marked, blinds broken. This is a wonderful old building with quaint decor, a lovely staff, and very tasty breakfast. It's perfectly located being both easy to get to from the train station and a short stroll from the sites of York. There is a bit of noise from the bars, but luckily they provide ear plugs of you need them.

Comfortable and safe stay, but this did not feel like a 5* experience. The room was beautiful however, it was cramped for 2 adults and 2 children. We had dinner at the restaurant, which was average at best however, the breakfast was very good with a varied selection. The hotel is an excellent choice for its location but just didn’t match its 5 star reputation.
