Great location, friendly staff, rooms meh.

The W brand has taken over this historic hotel and brought their rock star style. Not overly done, but the Curt Cobain art seemed out of place. The rooms are small, oddly organized around the shower and white lacquer desk/shelves/chaise lounge installation. The rooftop bar is fun and Pinea's outdoor restaurant is fun, but the staff at Pinea isn't well trained (a management issue). For the cost of those rooms you should enjoy yourself more than I did. BUT, the location is great so if that is your priority this hotel will meet your expectations.

Great hotel in great location, but with minor room glitches

Pros: convenient location, amazing roof lounge, despite active lobby room was quiet
Cons: No free Internet, Noisy, expensive breakfast
I very much enjoyed my stay at the W Washington DC (although the hotel still is not widely known by this name, instead being referred to as "the Washington Hotel" by several taxi drivers). As a walker, I enjoyed that the hotel was centrally located for my visit, making a pleasant walk to many venues, including the Convention Center. It is less than 3 blocks from the subway, making access to most every part of the city (including the airport) very quick and easy. I did, however, have several complaints arising from the room's shower, which apparently leaked substantially each time it was used. The first time (a quick mid-day shower following a red-eye flight and before rushing out to a Nationals baseball game), I didn't notice any water until after returning from being out all day, and so when I discovered a small wet area of the bedroom rug, thought I had simply spilled some water without realizing. But the next morning, after my shower, I noticed water again, and thought perhaps I hadn't properly closed the shower door. But the third morning, while preparing to shower (having started the water), I noticed an area where water had already started seeping through back of the glass shower enclosure. I placed a hand towel at the corner, thinking that would be enough to address the issue. That was nothing, however, to the giant puddle that had formed in the front of the shower unit during my shower. Being a good sport (and with several large towels available), I cleaned up the mess and reported it to the front desk. Problem 1 - After telling the staff member that the shower was leaking, he asked me "Did you tell anyone about this", to which I replied, "That's what I'm doing telling you." He promised to get engineering to look at the problem, and when I returned later that day found a sign indicating engineering had, indeed, come and fixed the problem. Problem 2 - Unfortunately, the next morning I discovered they were wrong (or fibbed), as several more towels were needed to keep the floor from becoming a wading pool. Kind of frustrating service.

W Hotels have nice and trendy but small rooms

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: small room
The hotel is exciting with an incredible rooftop bar – one of the hottest locations in DC with a spectacular view of the White House. W Hotel rooms are expensive and small but the overall, a class-act experience.

perfection!

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
Cons: No free Internet
I only stayed here one night, and they made me feel like a perpetually valued customer. Friendly staff to all types and very efficient. Perfect location to major monuments, especially for a guest like myself with no transportation access. I am definitely staying here next visit!

Had a "W"onderful experience!

I had the pleasure of staying at the W Washington during the Thanksgiving Holiday, and it was my first time in a W property. I was pleasantly surprised with every aspect. I was greeted by friendly staff, allowed to check in early, received a high-quality coffee maker delivered to my room, along with name-brand coffees that were delivered in a silky purple bag! The attention to detail at this hotel is amazing, with unique decor that you won't find at most hotels, and they have awesome designer toiletries. The look and feel of the hotel, lobby, and lounge areas is very trendy and sophisticated, appealing to the chic professional set, which I appreciated. As I left my room to explore each day, fresh hot apple cider was available as I faced the brisk temperatures. This hotel is one of the closest to most sights one would want to see in the Mall area. In the evening, the lobby bar was a very nice place to meet new people and chat. (Bill, the bartender, was very entertaining!) Lastly, the fact that they volunteered to print my boarding pass and have it ready for me at check out was very convenient. The only negative I can state would be the lack of free interenet service. I would definitely stay here again, and look forward to doing so in the near future!

too modern

Cons: No free Internet, to hip and cool; overdoing the cool factor
I prefer hotels that are homely. There were too many abstract features that I had to figure out before use. For example, I couldn't figure out how to flush the toilet. Turns out the "handle" was a silver thingy on the wall that I had to push. Also - the light switches were all over the place...again...finding them and figuring out how they worked was difficult. There was a really nice worker who helped fill my ice bucket for me. However, the front desk had me standing in front of them for about 3 minutes before acknowledging me. Always a no no! Lastly, for the price I would have liked complimentary internet. $14.95 for 24hrs is RE-DI-CU-LOUS!!

Everything about my stay was wonderful. I would go back in a heart beat!

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, staff is better than good., very clean rooms, location was perfect
The Hotel was very clean and the staff went out of their way to make me feel special. The hotel is located perfectly if your need is business or pleasure. I stay in hotels all over the country and this place need not take a back seat to any hotel of it's same size and room price. Everything I could possibly need they made availble to me right in my own room.

Great stay, a big fan of this chain

Cons: no coffee in the rooms!
Loved the hotel the staff the location. It is pricy but worth it. Everybody is attentive, and are a pleasure to deal with. The W has unique decor, but it works. The location is great and I really enjoyed the vibe. We travelled there with a mixed age group, and everyone was delighted (young baby and grand parents). My only complaint may seem trite. Theres no free coffee in the rooms. After a tiring journey, I've come to look forward to and expect it.

Overrated, Overpriced, full of themselves & not customer friendly

This hotel is mediocre! Not what I expected for the price. Rooms are so tiny, barely enough room to walk around the bed. If you order room service, read the fine print, they tack on 30percent in charges plus a * dollar delivery fee, so add about 40 percent to the face value of the item. Then they charge * dollars a day for wifi. .... ETC...... And more on top of your overpriced room rate. Don't think about having a couple of drink in any of their bars. A cocktail will set you back * for one vodka and lemonade, * for domestic beer. This place is so full of themselves. Don't believe the hipe it is all marketing with no truth. This place wasn't terrible, but it was no where worth the amount of money they charge. On the weekend there are so many teeny boppers trying to get into the rooftop bar you an barley get through them to get to the elevator to get ro your room. needless to say, I will not be staying here again. Stay two blocks in any direction and you will save hundreds. Oh and they want you to believe they have a car to drop you somewhere at no charge (laughable) just another gimick to try and suck you in so they can rape your wallet.
