Hotel was great, redoing the dining room so food was high priced and not much to choose from. Im sure it will be better once everything is done.

We were not told about the hotel being under construction. It began at 7:00 AM and lasted the entire day every day. It was loud and annoying. The room was very small. The door men were very helpful and pleasant. The $11 “breakfast” was just a spread of cheese and crackers as well as a table of varying carbohydrates such as bagel, coffee cake, croissant. Nothing warm. The “bar” was made up of several small bars pushed together in the large theatre room with very little options. It was completely out of place and not welcoming. I’m going to assume when the hotel is not under construction and it’s under normal operation it may be very nice but the way we experienced it, it was not at all pleasant. Everything was out of place... and loud when in the hotel room due to banging and yelling of construction crew.

We stayed for a week, and while it is a nice and charming old hotel, it is under renovation. We heard construction work two mornings for a very brief period of time, and do to remodeling, certain things where unavailable. However, overall, it was still a nice hotel. They where very accommodating, and let us check in hours before the 3pm check in due to our early flight in at 12pm. If you enjoy that nice, classic, traditional feel then it is still a great option.

We were checked-in by the friendliest staff member, named Q. She made us feel so welcomed and got us into our king-bed room 2 hours before check-in time and gave us a voucher for a free drink from the makeshift bar in the ballroom. She also gave us detailed instructions and a mini map of how to use the DC Metro train. Housekeeping was the highlight of our stay. Every day our room was spotless and stocked with fresh towels, complimentary toiletries and bottles of water. Due to the vast construction under way, the main entrance to the hotel is gone and there is not a gift shop. Nothing to do at the hotel...at all. The roof did leak on our floor (8th floor) so they placed a bucket in the middle of the hallway. In all fairness, there was about 4" of rainfall that day. Bed was comfortable and had 4 pillows. TV was an appropriate size for the room. Mini fridge was nice. No microwave though. Elevators were fast and always open doored on the lobby floor, which was nice. Great location. About a block from the Dupont Circle Metro station and easy to get taxis and Ubers. Situated between The Anderson House (which had a 1-hour free guided tour) amd the Indonesian Embassy. The Ghandi Memorial is across the street. One block behind hotel is a street with a French pastry shop that serves great breakfasts as well. Also, a Subway amd many privately owned small restaurants serving everything from Chinese, bagels, pizza, burgers, and a nicer Italian restaurant.

We had a great time staying at the Fairfax. The only glitch was that the hotel is undergoing some interior renovation and so there was some noise during the day, however we had a very comfortable room and the bed was plush. Q was the greatest service provider that we have ever met, she helped us plan excursions to the Smithsonian gave us many recommendations for food, subway travel, helped us with cabs and other transportation, everything was wonderful with her guidance, we got so much more out of our stay having her input it really helped us. Thank you Q we love you!

Booked this hotel thru Travelocity. Upon arrival, they honored my request to be moved away from the elevator doors. Moved us to a much larger room down the hall. The staff is pleasant in all ways. The room was always well maintained. It is centrally located close to Dupont Circle and there are numerous wonderful restaurants within walking distance The suggestions from the hotel were excellent! Enjoyed our week at this hotel! Would highly recommend it to anyone,
