If you feel up for a scenic drive, visit beautiful Mount Pleasant, where Old Threshers is held every year at the end of August, beginning of September. Visit our Swinging Bridge in Colombus Junction or take a drive to Iowa City/Coralville (home of the Hawkeyes) and enjoy shopping, at Coral Ridge Mall.

We had a wonderful Christmas stay at this beautiful, outdoorsy cabin with our family. The openness of the space paired with the cozy fires made it the perfect place to relax, connect, and truly enjoy the season. One thing that stood out and meant a great deal to us was the thoughtful honoring of our military—it was deeply appreciated and did not go unnoticed. We loved exploring the trails and being surrounded by nature while still feeling completely at home. This cabin created lasting memories for our family, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking for comfort, meaning, and a true outdoor escape.

Layout of home was perfect for our family of 12 in ages ranging from three months to 64. I only gave four stars for the check in process because I was not notified how to access the house. I had to text an hour before our arrival to get the information needed to gain access to the house. Canoeing on the pond was a hit with our young “sailors”. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that our rental fee went towards helping veterans who use the house to help them heal both physically and emotionally from their time in combat to protect us from danger.

This is a beautiful, peaceful, private property. The house is a spacious and clean and there was plenty of room for 10 adults and 6 kids to spread out. It was great to have 2 kitchens and 2 family room areas. The fishing in the pond was exceptional and the lawn was perfect for yard games and campfires. We have stayed in VRBOs for 14 years and this was one of the best. Would recommend it highly.

We really enjoyed this beautiful property. Its perfect for lots of family members and has enough room for everyone to relax. The communication with the manager is a little rough, he lives about twenty feet away & keeps a close eye on everyone. The owners were very apologetic and were going to handle everything right away. The manager is very much geared towards veterans and having a wonderful place for them to get away and relax and regroup. I cant say enough good about the owners. They are fantastic and respond right away. Dont hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns.

could have been so much better

Property/lodge was nice, but the horrible communication by the host significantly impacted our stay. I reached out after booking (prior to our stay) with an easy question and it took the host almost three days to respond. The listing also said lockbox code would be provided day of check in (a pain, as we were traveling and the property is located in a remote area with bad cell coverage). No code or instructions were provided that day, even by 4:00pm check in time, so I called and the cell number was unreachable. I messaged via the app right after that (from an area that had cell coverage) and the host replied a hour and a half later saying the house is unlocked and the key was inside. There was also a significant amount of someone’s left over food in the refrigerator and two of the beds were unmade.Very frustrating.

Great for a larger group!

We had an awesome stay in this lodge! This was perfect for our large group with two living areas and plenty of room to spread out. Would have loved to have some carpet or a big comfy couch for more of the warm cabin feel, but it wasn’t necessary for our group and the grounds/space is awesome!

An unreal escape.

Amazing place to stay. You won’t beat it. The only problem is they can’t slow down time while you’re there. And, if it applies to you as a veteran/first responder with PTSD or CPTSD, you can literally feel the weight of it again when you leave. But the break, even if just for a bit, Is worth it.

Best Family Vacation Home we've ever stayed in!!!

This fabulous rural property fit our needs perfectly… Eight adults ranging 40 years to 68 years and eight "kids "ranging seven years to 18 had plenty of space to spread out and explore and also plenty of room to join together for meals and games… The only change I would say is please do more photos and explanation of this fabulous house… We were very, very pleasantly surprised to have TWO kitchens, an amazing wraparound deck and all the other amenities that came with the Hero Lodge. Jennifer was a fabulous hostess, and everyone in our family voted to come back again next year!!!

Relaxing Weekend with Friends

We had a wonderful time at the lodge! We had three families in our group with 11 kids ranging in age from 2-9, and they all had a blast! It's super nice having 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. Plenty of space for people to spread out and hang out together. We visited in August, and the pond had 2 canoes and 1 paddle boat. We brought our own life jackets and we all fished and went out on the boats every day. There are water snakes, so just watch for those. We went into town and got coffee and ice cream and found Sunset Park, which was a hit! They had 2 playgrounds and a disc golf course. Communication was good and friendly, but we didn't have instructions upon check-in. Thankfully, the building owner had left the doors unlocked for us when we arrived because it was hard getting ahold of them. Phone number was not connected. Overall, had a wonderful, memorable experience and would recommend to anyone! Thank you thank you!

We had a great time relaxing in this spacious quiet country home. We had a group of 11 and there was plenty of room for everyone. We grilled a few meals, walked the trails, and enjoyed the firepit. Place was clean and property well kept. All in all this was a great place for our family to spend quality time together

Great location for a peaceful weekend away

Our group of friends had a great stay. Very nice location on a quiet road adjacent to a county park. The fire pit in a clearing in the woods is so nice. Ample space for sleeping and gathering, and 5 full bathrooms is a huge plus. Highly recommend!
