We were celebrating my wife's birthday and wanted a unique experience. A Bed and Breakfast in Warrenton was our first choice. The furnishings were very nice and enhanced our stay. This is a big plus! On the negative side: (1) Access into the B&B should have been identified as being difficult to navigate due to the number of steps and how steep they were. (2) Our welcome package had the wrong name on it, which is not a big deal, but strange. (3) No layout sketch on the location of our room and the bathroom we wandered the house looking for it. (4) The B&B was advertised as such, but upon check-in, we learned that only a $10.00 "Gift Card" was provided to the room for breakfast in town. It is nit a gift but advertised as a B&B and $5.00 per person for "breakfast" is not reasonable. (5) No creamer provided for morning coffee, but could be accommodated since we were expected and could have small creamers in the refrigerator. Even packaged coffee cakes in the room for two would be a nice touch. Advertisement of the facility needs to be update to reflect actual amenities.

The property was difficult to find in the dark with limited lighting and no obvious sign in the dark. The house is a treasure but with much differed maintenance. It appears very little money is being put back into this nearly 200 year old house.

Charming and welcoming

Beautiful old historic home a few blocks from the Main Street of Warrenton. Good breakfast, comfy bed. Shared bath between two rooms, which was easy to manage. Would definitely recommend coming here.

Great experience at the Chilton House...

We have stayed at the Chilton House twice now and have enjoyed it both times. James is great and very hospitable. This is our go to spot for a comfortable and convenient to downtown Warrenton stay when passing through the area.

James makes it

A lovely old home with a strong sense of the history of those who've lived here. The room was small, but comfortable, and it had all of the little things you'd expect of a B and B in a slow Southern town. The thing that really sets it apart is James, the innkeeper, who has been around the world and back, has a ton of stories and loves to laugh. I prefer B-n-bs because they don't feel industrial and impersonal. If I'm going to sleep somewhere, I don't want it to feel like a hospital. James' presence adds a homey and welcoming feel to the place without being invasive.

Charming house, steps away from historic downtown. Friendly innkeeper with many good stories. Would suggest supplying robes for rooms without ensuite bath (awkward set-up with innkeeper’s room located in between.)

Very relaxing stay at Chilton House, close to great restaurants and walking areas. James, the caretaker and chef, provided exellent historical information on the house and family, making our stay even more interesting. His breakfasts were top notch, served at your table and made with care from the freshest ingredients.

Great Bed and Breakfast in Warrenton, close to everything. Caretaker was very helpfull and very knowledgable about the home's history. He also made a great breakfast. Room was cozy and quite. We were down for the gold cup and it was a great location to get there. We would recommend the Chilton House to anyone staying in or around Warranton.

Lovely stay in period house.

Lovely old house with warm welcome from James our host. We had the en suite room that was a little small, other rooms much bigger but without en suite. Easy walk to Old Warrenton town with shops and restaurants. Would recommend a stay here.

The Real Thing

Chilton House is the real thing - gracious hospitality in a genuine historic home where the pictures on the wall are of actually family going back centuries as opposed to faux ancestors purchased for effect. We stayed in the Hearst Room, bedroom of Austine a pioneering female journalist who married a Hearst. From her vanity table to pictures of her as a teenager, equestrienne and belle of the ball, the room has a authentically romantic ambience Breakfast was elegant and nutritious - more Julia Child than Paula Dean - and served by our attemtive and well-informed bow-tie clad host, James..

Up-and-coming B&B

Chilton House is historic, well-preserved and beautiful, and well-located near to Warrenton downtown, restaurants and county government offices. It is on a street of similarly beautiful homes, and a very walkable area. Innkeeper attentive and knowledgeable about the property (and cooked an outstanding breakfast), but still getting to know the area.

Intimate b&b

New b&b in a cute little town, not too far from the Shenandoah National Park. Very intimate with only a few rooms and a resident innkeeper. Good for those interested in history, as the 200 year old house is well preserved. Be prepared that sharing a bathroom can be stressful, as it is situated between you and your neighbor's bedrooms. If you like BBQ, try the ribs at Sibby's just 5 minutes away!

Wonderful and Historic B&B

Charming four bedroom B&B in the heart of historic Warrenton. The owner has taken a great deal of effort to maintain the architechtural details of the house, originally built in 1820. James, the innkeeper, immediately made us feel welcome. He gave us a tour of the house and explained the history of the Chilton family. He had excellent suggestions for places to visit in Warrenton and the surrounding area. Our room was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Continental breakfast in the morning was plentiful and delicious. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Chilton House.

A beautiful historic house

By chance we came across this amazing B@B in Warrenton. It was built in the 1820s and has a newer addition from the 1930s. Only recently it was turned into an inn. It is quite an experience to stay in such a beautiful home/museum and ponder about life in the 19th century.
