About this property

Waterfront, Swimming Hotspot, Private Down Town Location, Farmhouse

Beautiful historic farmhouse in the heart of Waitsfield Village! Overlooking the Mad River with private access to the swimming hole. Amazing swimming and fishing is right out the back door! See the Mad River from kitchen, living room and other windows as well! Level back yard is great for children. Convenient downtown location, yet private setting. Sit on the wrap-around front porch with views of the covered bridge. Less than a block to the local Bridge Street shops and restaurants. One block away from the Mad Bus Stop (Bus that can drop you at Sugarbush in the winter) and library. 3 minute drive to grocery stores or even walk or bike there in the summer!

This historic home was built in 1848 and was renovated in 1992. It has wide pine flooring and historic trim and molding around many of the original windows and doors. This property abuts land with a beaver pond and many hiking trails for you to enjoy. The property also connects to the Wu Ledges Town Forest that connects for miles and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Enjoy kayaking or tubing? Put in up river and climb out on your own private access point.

We have tubs for floats to share. If the river is high, there are also local shops to rent kayaks for a calm river kayak. Explore blueberry lake, only a 10 minute drive for a beautiful day swim, float, kayak or hang out.

Winter-CX ski out the back door! 10 minutes to skiing Sugarbush or Mad River Glen, 40 minutes to Stowe. This is the perfect spot for one or two families to share for a winter ski getaway!

A few things to know...
- the basement, barn and other out buildings are not accessible to the rental.
- This is an old home, so there is lead paint- (that has been painted over).
- There are other rentals in the "barn" at the end of the driveway. The driveway is shared. At some point we may or may not be living in one of the rentals.

Owner is a VT licensed Real Estate Agent.

Amazing Property and Beautiful Home

What an amazing place to stay and enjoy the Mad River Valley! Rachel and her family made the stay perfect, adding special touches that made you feel right at home. The location is fabulous - walking distance to everything you need in Waitsfield and right on the river. Our kiddos loved running around on the property and playing with the cat and bunnies. We’d recommend staying here and hope to visit again someday!

Fantastic home and host!

It’s hard to capture all of the ways that Rachel and Luke made us feel at home. Check-in was not only seamless, but Rachel was kind enough to let us in early after a long all-night drive. All of the beds had crisp, clean linens… plenty of towels for both inside and outside, and a kitchen fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc. Coffee pot, kettle, vacuum cleaners, TVs with Netflix and air conditioners, brand new washer/dryer were also available for use. The location of the house right on the Mad River made for great swimming, relaxing and listening to the river, and seats + fire pit for a fire and s’mores. If you have smaller kids, just be aware that the embankment along the river in front of the house is very steep (you need to pay attention). The covered bridge next to the house is beautiful and gives you quick access to stores in town. Everything you could possibly need is within a 5 mins drive (food, groceries, hardware, restaurants, cafes… you name it). Rachel also provided tubes for floating down the river, and some of the cutest bunnies in the barn to entertain our kids. Truly a special place to be! Thank you Rachel and Luke :-)

Family get away

The house was great!! Plenty of room inside for everyone to have their own space and also large rooms for everyone to gather together. The outdoors was great! The patio was shaded and comfortable to sit and read or grill and eat. The yard was great fun for a game of croquet, a small fire or to step into the river for a swim. The location was perfect for our many adventures to Burlington, Warren, Montpelier... Museums, river swimming, rock jumping and hiking. My only regret is that we did not have enough time to do all that I wanted to. It was wonderful meeting the hosts, great source of information on places and things to do. You will love it there, we all did!!!!
