The room took forever to be ready. There was a huge slit in the door and when I spoke to Luis about it, he laughed in my face and told me there was nothing else available. I asked if there was anything else around the resort they could offer me because I was unsatisfied with the door, again laughed in my face and said no. I was given four bottles of water. The place is crusty. No tv. I asked for laundry service and they never came. Horrible experience. Will never come back and I don’t recommend anyone come here. Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere.

Our staff is highly professional and would never laugh at a guest's complaint. We take claims very seriously. It is noted that most of the reviews about the Blue Horizon are excellent. It is unfortunate that on occasion, we will encounter travelers that did not read that our resort omits tvs in rooms and that did not read the correct check in time. This guest even complained that she reserved a queen bed and was upgraded to a king size bed.

Not as advertised

Left after 20 minutes. Room not as advertised Even after an upgrade. Horrible claustrophobic tiny room with no ventilation. Room reeked of insecticide so much so that you could not stay in the room for a few seconds. Staff rude and unapologetic. I would never recommend.

Beautiful location

Pros: Beach, location, private, pool
Cons: A dorm refrigerator. The slats on the doors/windows opened easier for view/circulation. Safer safe.
Location: Esparanza a 5 min drive, 15 min walk. Several restaurants, bars, a couple of gift shops. Main beach is there and you can rent kayaks & snorkel. Bio ba
The grounds and facilities are beautiful. There is a beach, however there is a cliff overlooking it and you take a small path to get down to it. It was beautiful and vacant of people every time we were on it, and my husband enjoyed snorkeling their the one day he tried it. There is no shade on the beach, and no chairs to sit in. However, the staff graciously loaned us great fold-up lounge chairs to take to our beach, and wherever else on the island we wanted to take them that were lightweight, easy to use and very comfortable. They also loaned us a cooler to put ice in and keep drinks in. I am not a pool person at all, but I must say, it was one of best resort pools I've ever seen. It had the infinity edge facing the ocean, a full side of steps that you could lounge on, or you could even swim laps in the deep section. At night there were glowing/sparkling crystals sprinkled on the bottom of the pool. The lounge chairs around the pool did give you a couple of options of shade if you're like me and need to keep from becoming crispy. The rooms were ok. They were nice and private, and each bungalow had it's own porch and chairs to relax on. Be aware the room safes are not safe, items were not missing, but cash was. We stayed 10 days, rented a Jeep from Avis, and toured the entire Island. Snorkeled many beaches, explored the island, kayaked over to another island, and went to the Bio bay which isn't to be missed. It was a lovely, relaxing vacation.

Relaxing

Pros: Room was clean and the location very serene.
Cons: The only improvement would be to move the horse apples off the sidewalk a bit more quickly. Since horses roam wild, this happens occasionally.
Location: Since Vieques is a fairly small island, Blue Horizon is a short drive to everything. The hotel will arrange tours and cars for you.
The rooms are duplex bungalows spread across the estate. Loved the wild/feral horses roaming with their accompanying cattle egrets. Lovely pool with a view of the ocean. The beach is not good for swimming, but it is pretty and nice for strolling. The staff was very helpful and friendly - even helped when the keys were locked in a suitcase!

Buyer beware

Pros: The hotel has a beautiful setting and we slept well in our nice king bed.
Cons: Quality of provisions, service, & accountability. My recommendation: be specific about the room reserved and skip the restaurant
Location: Lovely location, fantastic bio bay tour (yes, we were able to book one!), beautiful, beautiful beaches, and great snorkeling
Strike 1: Room location and charge. Our stay got off on a bad note, as our room was next to two outdoor bathrooms and reception, meaning - when getting out of the shower - we were eye-to-eye with bar patrons using the facilities. Since all our rooms are priced the same, we asked to change rooms to have more privacy but were told the hotel was fully booked both nights. We decided to make the best of it and move on. Strike 2: Lost bio-bay reservation. When we checked in, we made a reservation with the receptionist for a bioluminesce tour the next night (as she told us “a stay in Vieques isn’t a stay if you didn’t do the bioluminescence tour”). We confirmed this reservation with another receptionist the next afternoon; however, at 6:30, the same receptionist had no idea who was picking us up and no clue of the reservation. Even worse, another couple was looking for a room, and the receptionist told them the price of an available room - making Strike 1 a double whammy, as we realized we’d been lied to about all rooms being booked. Strike 3: Service, cost and quality. We know that restaurant prices are often doubled at hotels (especially on islands where the food is imported), but it is displeasing (to say the least) to pay $4 for Tropicana, $9 for fruit & Yoplait, and not have decaf (I"m pregnant and need it!). Furthermore, food service seemed to move at a glacial pace and other advertised services (wifi and hot water) were inconsistent at best.

Highlight of the Trip

We spent our last 2 nights in Puerto Rico, on Vieques, at the Inn of the Blue Horizon. Our only complaint was that we didn't have more time. The entire staff was friendly, accommodating and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. Thank you Jamal, Saundra and especially Adam for making our short stay on Vieques a memorable one. We are lifetime fans of the Inn and the Island. We checked in, unpacked, sat on the wrap around porch, ate a spectacular meal under a full moon and than took a walk down to the cliffs edge to enjoy the breath taking views of the ocean at night. It was my partners birthday and one of the most rommantic. There is no TV but you wont miss it. The restaurant was excellent but the menu was limited and a little pricy but the best meal we had in PR.
