Thetford Priory.
The church dates from the 14th century onwards, and consists of a west tower, nave with north and south aisles and clerestories, chancel, and north porch. Like many churches in the area it is built in flint with some ashlar and brick with lead roofs. The tower is 15th century with large buttresses and the nave aisles flanking it. There is a later brick embattled parapet. The north porch is of two storeys dating from the 15th century with a stair turret to the west. The nave has arcades of four bays with octagonal piers. The roof line from the 14th century is still visible on the tower. The roof was originally thatched. There were originally box pews in the nave and these were replaced along with a new pulpit in 1853. The chancel has a piscina and a three light east window with early Victorian stained glass. There are several good wall monuments. The church was declared redundant in the late 1980s and was accepted by the Churches Conservation Trust in 1995 who carried out restoration work.
St. Andrew Church, Langford This is a corner of the churchyard at St. Andrew Church, Langford. This church is situated inside the STANTA military battle training area and I visited on 26th March 2010 with special permission from the MoD. The area was originally established in 1942 when a battle training area was required. Military exercises were already known in the area; tanks had trained at Thetford in the First World War. The complete takeover involved the evacuation of the villages of Buckenham Tofts, Langford, Stanford, Sturston, Tottington and West Tofts. All residents were evactuated in 1942.
