We stayed from yesterday to today for our 4th consecutive anniversary visit. It’s become a tradition for us, and we don’t mind spending quite a bit on a one-night stay because it’s such a special occasion. We loved our room, along with the adorable swan towels, chocolate truffles, and the lovely card from the team.
We had an okay night’s sleep, but there was a loud tapping or dripping sound in or near our room that disturbed us throughout the night. This morning at breakfast something we usually really look forward to we had a less pleasant experience. When we requested breakfast from the woman who appeared to be the manager (she was dressed differently from the waitresses), her manner felt quite cold. I asked if I could put together a breakfast with eggs and hash browns, and I was about to ask for beans when she started listing options. When I mentioned hash browns, it felt as though she was looking down on us. That may not have been her intention, but her demeanour came across that way.
It’s a shame this stay didn’t feel as warm as usual. My partner had a similar impression of her the evening before at the bar, so I’m not sure if this is typical,the rest of the staff were absolutely lovely. We ended the night with dinner at Zizzi’s, where the staff were wonderfully engaging and even surprised us with complimentary Prosecco to toast our wedding.
Overall, it was just disappointing that the experience wasn’t quite as special as it has been in previous years.
