This hotel has immense colonial charm (some won’t like it for that reason, but I did). A few little tips - Wotif says it’s 13km from Changi airport - Major furphy - more like 45mins (checked the taxi receipt so I could check the sense I was in the taxis for a v long time). Very positive is the Polo Bar (the staff rustled me up a cheese plate after hours) and the pool (unlike the high rise hotels which can be very busy I virtually had the pool to myself on a Sunday). Elegant mini bar. Great front desk service. This hotel grew on me!

Misleading Room and Disappointing Service — Not Worth the Executive Experience I recently stayed at this property for a special occasion and was extremely disappointed with the experience. Upon check-in, I found that the windows in the room were completely blocked due to nearby construction — something that was never disclosed prior to arrival. The room was effectively windowless, which was not what I expected or paid for. To make matters worse, the staff at the Executive Lounge — particularly the main server during the afternoon bites — was rude and dismissive, making us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Given that this was meant to be an upgraded executive experience, the service was far below expectations. Overall, the lack of transparency, poor hospitality, and subpar room conditions left a negative impression. I would not recommend this property unless the construction ends and staff attitudes significantly improve.

From check-in to check-out, the service was excellent. The room wasn’t ready by the time I arrived, but when I returned from an appointment elsewhere, I got my key cards straight away. The concierge remembered my name then and again the next morning. While waiting for friends at Cultivate Café, I was comped for their drinks (even though we ended up going elsewhere for dinner), which was as unexpected as the slice of birthday cake and song that my friends arranged with the staff. Many thanks to Rosie in particular, whose birthday is the same as mine! Breakfast for two the next morning was generous, and with the late checkout we had time for a long walk around the area, dropping in for a bite or a drink at various restaurants. What a wonderful weekend!

Probably the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel, Moldy and musty smell permeated the rooms and was given a room the first night with no windows! No one cared that the hotel smelled so bad nor did anyone follow up after I made a complaint via the front desk. I checked out early and went elsewhere.

Great historic grand old hotel. See what Singapore was like in the period prior to the World Wars. Staff was great, especially doorman, Jin, who was helpful and informative. The reason for the negative review around the property is due to a huge construction project going on along side the property currently.

Understaffed at check in - one clerk, three parties ahead of me, 26 min wait. Tried to phone for room service the evening I arrived, no one picked up dialing various numbers. Also the layout of ground floor is inconvenient - nice to have a lobby where you can have an informal chat w someone or even get the computer out and do some work - instead they have decorative antique chairs marked “do not sit” in every available space, apart from the restaurant which was closed it being later evening. Also a housekeeping cart permanently parked outside my room. On the positive side, breakfast was spectacular, the room was clean & comfortable though small, and it was good value for money.

Amazing hotel - so historic - in fantastic condition with modern yet classic decor Also I wanted a quick breakfast - I got coffee and scrambled eggs on toast in about 90 seconds. The team took care of my bags all day allowing me to sight-see on my last day and then offered me showers to change before going to the airport

Acceptable but definitely below average. Doesn’t qualify for 5 stars, 4 max. Very small rooms, extremely old with some broken items, doors, showers, light switches. No room service past 9pm (what’s the point ?), utterly pricey add ons (SGD 16 for nuts). Beds not comfortable.
