the second we walked into the Bulldog, we knew we made a mistake. The lobby was dim and depressing, and the carpets were old and tattered. The room itself was no better: the bed was old and soft and saggy, the couch was tired and dated, and the whole place badly needs an upgrade. The staff who checked us in on Sat Mar 30 was friendly and helpful, but the bored man behind the desk on Sunday did not even deign to look up from his phone, not even once, as guests walked in and out. Honestly, we would rather sleep in a snowbank than stay at the Bulldog again.

Did not feel particularly welcome here. Understandable given COVID, but the staff seemed to be more comfortable with other guests, and I'm not totally sure why. I was told my credit card was declined repeatedly, which didn't make sense because it worked in other places the same day. I had to put down a deposit in cash, the amount for which the person at the desk said could be $100 or $200, but then stated that it should be $250 cash and advised me to use their ATM to extract the extra money (I just left the $200 cash I had on me). I ate in the room because I did not want to be in a public space, and made a small stain on the sheets, for which they took $60 cash. This made me feel like I was being taken advantage of. The idea that hotel bedding would cost $60 to replace not only contrasts with the quality of the sheets (not great, Bulldog), but how hotels typically operate (no doubt this was not the worst thing to happen to a set of sheets at this hotel even during my stay).

White Christmas

We loved our weeklong stay. It was my wife’s first White Christmas. Our king bed with the pull-out futon was perfect for our family with 9-year old twin boys. Excellent location for a meet-up with our East-Coast family. The location was convenient as it was close to the Gondola lift and easy ski-in/ski-out. Family gathered back at the hotel lobby for 11:30 lunch (Bulldog Cafe lunch special take-out was quick). My Sister-in-law and wife easily went off the mountain to grocery shop in Vernon. Parking free on Bulldog Property. Or visit early for the easy walking distance of the nearby parking lot (if you want to visit for a day trip.). Thank you to Sola, Carolina, Callum, Catalina, Jen and Helene. The staff made us feel at home.

The hotel and Silver Star village weren't yet open for summer season so there were only 3 couples staying in the hotel. There was also only one restaurant open and the kitchen closed at 7pm - but the beer was told and the wait staff were great. It was a lot of fun and we would definitely go back to Silver Star and the Bulldog again.
