Stop over on the way to York

We stayed as a family of 4. The hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly. There is free parking on site, just confirm your registration at reception. We had a great breakfast that was included in the price. We were very pleased with our stay and would definitely consider returning if we are in the area.

The George is an old property, and it feels like it needs an injection of TLC, it has wallpaper coming off in areas. The rooms are tired and dated. However, the staff are really friendly and helpful, the town of Selby has lost its charm. The Abbey is spectacular and the concert there was brilliant.

Disappointing

Very poor parking not enough spaces for vehicles. Single bedroom had 3 stairs to bathroom with high sided bath and a shower head which l could not reach, breakfast could have been better

Though a bit old but feel good and comfortable overall. The breakfast there is delicious. There is a river by the hotel that I can walk my dog too.

Great value

The George is very good value and in a great central spot in Selby. Big room but it is a little tired. Excellent breakfast each morning with lovely cold buffet and hot breakfast to order. The bed was extremely comfortable -one of the best mattresses we've slept on away from home. Our room was directly above the bar though and it is very, very noisy until the bar closes. I don't believe anybody could sleep in there without ear plugs. It was a struggle being in the room in the evening as you cannot quietly rest. All in all though we still think there are many positives and it is fabulous value. Also free parking which is a bonus!

Not sure how this hotel has such a high rating. The building and interior is in desperate need of upgrading. The room itself was sizeable and clean enough but lacked any friendliness or warmth, wood chip decoration?! The bathroom was small, the water temperature difficult to control. The internet worked for 2 minutes and that was it. We didn’t stay for the free breakfast to avoid further disappointment.

Food terrible

Only there 2hrs and a fight broke out chairs were thrown people scared ..Food terrible steak was like shoe leather ..frozen vegatables n instant mash potatoes..breakfast was sausages over cooked rggs practical over cooked to the extent we never went for the 2nd morning breakfast .

Nice comfortable stay at affordable prices

Good old hotel. Nice pub and restaurant. Room was clean and comfortable with all amenities present. Beds and pillows are just right.

Cheeky night in Selby

Positive. The staff were extremely helpful and polite. The hotel had free parking which for a central hotel is quite rare so much appreciated. The pub itself was so busy town centre pub great atmosphere the food was very nice and plus if you’re staying though you get 10% off. The rooms were clean. The bedding was lovely and crisp and clean. The rooms are not very large but as we were only staying for one night this really didn’t affect us. The negatives. It is a central pub so there is noise coming from downstairs and outside this didn’t bother us, but I’m sure it would others. The building is old and therefore has old plumbing which creeks and clicks especially in the night time when the heating is going on and off this didn’t help for a sound sleep but as I said, we stayed one night. I would certainly recommend it was definitely worth the money and the breakfast was amazing. Just book knowing that you could be in for some noise and some old creaky plumbing.

The pub/hotel was the best of it's type that we've ever stayed in. Lovely, friendly staff. Breakfast was delicious, and plentiful. The shopping centre is just metres away.

Es gab sehr reichliches, gutes Frühstück nach typisch englischer Art. In der Dusche funktionierte leider das kalte Wasser nicht, so dass man nicht duschen konnte. Denn das heiße Wasser allein war viel zu heiß. Das Fenster klemmte, so dass man es schlecht öffnen konnte.
