Cheap hotel, it would have been beautiful in its day but that's just typical of British seaside resorts. Scarborough itself was exactly as I remembered as a child, fun, cheap, tacky but great for a couple of days with kids

Ok for a one night stay

My stay was mixed, I had booked a single room for one night. On arrival I found the bedding to be torn and had a large hole in the quilt cover. I reported this to reception and was moved to a different room, this was a very nice room and the bedding was fine. The hotel itself is quite tired, would benefit from a refurb, there were several leaks around the building. Pleasant staff who were very helpful.

Royal Hotel scruffy cesspit

Arrived at the royal hotel Scarborough to check in gave us our keys and we went to the room to put our bag's in but the room stunk of a over powering damp and fish so we went and informed the reception where they told that they would change our room to a smaller room but that didn't bother us. We went up to the second room which once again had a smell of damp but this room the walls were soaking wet with damp in the area that the bed was and there was paint pealing of the bathroom ceiling. So we again went to reception to inform them of the situation and to ask to be put in another room to this they said no. I informed them i have a low immune system due to having cancer and just finishing my latest round of chemotherapy. He just said sorry but you need to inform customer services and they may give you a refund but in the mean time he would check us out and we can go find somewhere else . But that was not an option due to the fact i can't walk far and we had got the train to Scarborough and then a taxi to the hotel and i was exhausted so we had no option but say for two nights. I felt ill while i was there so i contacted our son who took the day of work to come and pick us up i have been to the doctors when i got back and i am now on antibiotics for a bad chest infection that the doctor said was probably caused by the damp condition of the room. Iwill never go back to that hotel again and think the staff should all go and get re trained

Found quite expensive for the state of the room, dirty places, horrible smell with in the room that hit noses when door opened. Good sized room for family and nice view. Hairs in the cups left for tea. Disappointed with the room rate, did the job which we needed it for just to sleep in. No breakfast included in the price which others for around the same price did have included.

Better than expected

Hotel was better than expected after reading the reviews, first room we were given hadn’t been cleaned when we went to it so we were upgraded to a better room, used pool and sauna, pool was nice and warm, would be nice if it was included in the price but the £6 charge each wasn’t too bad. Breakfast tasted nice and was hot too which was a bonus. Some of the corridors had an offensive smell.

We chose the Royal for location. The property is very tired. When we arrived our beds were poorly made. I felt uncomfortable in the room & would rate the appearance 6/10. There were 2 chairs in the room which dust had accumulated on the seats. Thankfully the bedding was white & clean.

The (one) bar closing at 10 pm had to ask for a fan for the room as it was really hot weather. Apart from that every thing was fine.

1 night at royal hotel

Check in i was dissappointed with as i had to leave 2 bags behind a small counter no where near reception check i was nervous in doing this as my bags where not checked with a card number like most hotels but just left behind a small counter that anyone could get a round but receptionist said there is a Camera overlooking this. this desk was not manned Otherwise room was clean enough it was a 1 night stay so just needed a bed as i was out all dayCheck out was 10 am so had to leave both bags behind this counter again as i wasnt leaving til 2.30 the following day so this must he the norm for this hotel luckily nothing happened with my bags so credit to the hotel but the royal does need a few repairs which broke down with someone in it while i was there need to lookat this as coach parties with a certain age with walking sticks

The only good thing is the area that this property is located. It’s not clear and the room we were given did not have the basics and looks like it was not cleaned for ages, it was dusty and the smell was not good.
