We got no option to choose a double bed, so we got twin beds instead, that was very disappointing. We got only one small pillow each, that wasn't comfortable for my head. Walls were so thin that you could here what people were saying next door. TV 99% channels were in Russian with very poor picture quality. Security guard next to the lifts wasn't a nice surprise. Hair dryer wasn't working. Got no cattle to boil any water for a tea or coffee. But at least it was clean and the distance to the old town was walkable (approx.15-20min).

We had to open window because of hot weather, but was still quiet overlooking courtyard, no traffic noise. Room walls were not soundproof though, we could hear people in other rooms. Room was clean and had fridge. It is located a bit out of town. 2.2 km to train and bus stations. However there is a bus stop close by, so easy to get into town . You have to buy ticket from bus driver, since there is no Narvesen shop close by to buy bus ticket, which is OK just costs more. I could not find any supermarket or convenience store within easy walking distance to hotel. Best to use bus and go to Rimi supermarket and Central Market at station. Staff were efficient and helpful. Wifi patchy.

Not a 3* hotel by any standards

Basic, may have been the word to describe this hotel but certain things were way below. Old, cracked toilet and wash basin, toilet flash you had to be extra careful with or you could lift the back of the toilet. Tiny wardrobe for a suite, barely enough for one let alone for four. The mattress was dented on one side. On one occasion when they either run out of double sheets or were too lazy to go and get some, they used two single sheets width-wise overlapping (!!!) to make our bed with, and dirty towels that were thrown to the floor had not been replaced. I complained, they provided towels, apologised and said our bed would be made properly the next day. They had no top sheets, only quilt covers. The staff would not respond to a hello or goodmorning. Breakfast was surprisingly good and the service at breakfast equally good. Perhaps because of the presence of a box for tips? They deserved the tip though. I had arranged before I arrived through booking.com to use another entrance with no steps as I have restricted mobility. When I asked about it they said it was closed at the weekend and looked rather suspicious of me, and were very unfriendly about it, so I decided not to ask again as they all seemed so unaproachable. No designated disabled parking or any disabled facilities.

Good value.

The area is a bit run down and the outside of the hotel is not impressive but I would return there anyway. The place is clean. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The restaurant offers very decent meals at a very interesting price. The internet is working very well. Very good value overall.

Value hotel close to Art Nouveau district.

Decent hotel close to Art Nouveau district and within reasonable walking distance of Old Town. Very good value. Staff helpful. Not much in immediate area in evenings.

Nice hotel but not in old town

Tia hotel is not located within the old town, but there are convenient bus stops nearby from which to catch trolley bus number 3 to the old town. At a brisk pace, the old town is about 20 mins walk from the hotel. From the airport, catch bus number 22, then change to trolley bus number 3 at the 'Stockmann' building (the information office at the airport can supply maps, directions and tickets). Bus stop for Tia hotel is 'Bruninieku iela' about 5 stops from Stockmann. My room was clean and though not overly spacious, it was a comfortable size. The room had a minibar but no tea/coffee making facilities. Telephone housekeeping/reception for the use of an iron and ironing board. Hotel staff were excellent and helpful with directions and tours. Breakfast was nice, the typical spread of juice, tea/coffee, cereal, bread, pancakes, eggs and sausages.

Fantastic service

Good location (just a short stroll into the Old Town) and comfortable room, bed and bathroom, but what most impressed me about this hotel was the service. The staff couldn't have been happier to help out. Best example - when I left I asked for a cab, they sent the hotel van instead. Halfway to the airport the driver got a call to say the cleaners had found my passport in my room. He drove me back to the hotel where the passport was waiting for me at reception, then back to the airport. All for 10 lats (plus a tip). Loti pateicos!

Fair Deal in Downtown Riga

I've been staying in this hotel a few times recently both on my own being on business and combining it with a family wee-end stay at the family room which is quite convenient though the kitchenette lacks pottery and crockery and the TV is one room only. A big plus is a free parking at the doorsteps which has never been a problem to find an empty spot with me. There's is a big insurance company in the building sharing the same lobby with the hotel but once again it's never been a problem. The restaurant on teh ground floor offers a buffet service lunch deal tough a bit overcrowded with the insurance clerks during the lunch hour.

i was there for a week towards the end of February 2012. overall, the hotel wasnt that bad. the staff was ok... good choice of breakfast though. if you like walking, you could walk to the center in say 10-15 minutes depending of the pace of walk offcourse. the only problem i faced during my stay was of heating... the rooms were quite cold and there was no heat in the room esp considering the fact that it was february. but overall for the price it was good
