Nice hotel, but definite room for perfection

When we checked in our rooms were not ready. Host at check in said we should come back for keys and escorted us to buffet. I feel that more explanation regarding buffet food, service, etc should have been explained. Also a great time to show us around the Hotel explain amenities, restaurants, how the cart service(transportation to and from lobby, etc), works. Food was okay. Had to call several times for towels. After initial check in fridge was NEVER restocked ( shoukd NOT have to call for towels or restock service).......Cleaning service walked in while I was watching TV, never knocked, never apologized. Just finished showering btw.........tipped bar service by the pool very well, didn't see him again for almost 3 hrs. When I said "you forgot about is, he said he was at "lunch"........for 3 hrs, yikes. Beach had tons of seaweed.

I've never gone to an all inclusive resort. This hotel made it an unbelievable experience. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating. Excellent service and atmosphere. Planning to go back to celebrate my 40th. If you're looking for a great place this is the one.

Good, but definitely not a 5-Star Experience

Pros: oceanfront room, chic, beautiful lobby/ entrance and facility at main part of resort oceanfront cabanas - but service lacking great tropical drinks
Cons: water and beach full of seaweed--not sure how to fix but clarify all-inclusive--no need for constantly tipping organized teen excursions/ activities
Location: Saona Island a must! Water sports/ activities at hotel? Where were they? Close to airport- 20 minutes
Disappointing beach and ocean - murky water with lots of seaweed. Service - must constantly have cash and tip to get good service. Oceanfront Reserve room a must - if want to be near everything and feel like you are at the beach. Best part of vacation was full-day excursion to Saona Island--don't miss this opportunity--best $100 ever spent. Men--bring long pants if you want to go to a la carte restaurants. Take cream sunscreen with you--very expensive at hotels. Lots of people had Yeti and Tervis type cups with them--bc hotel offers small paper cups otherwise. Duty-Free shops at airport had the best prices for alcohol, cigars, and coffee. Bana restaurant for teppanyaki was great! Rare was horrible. Blue Agave and Olio were ok. Cabana/ concierge level service at beach was nil. Only came by once to ask if we needed anything--and we had just returned from getting our own drinks at the beach bar. Must be because even after spending almost a $1000 a night on a vacation--we still didn't tip enough. Frustrating. Who wants to carry cash everywhere--especially at the beach and pool? And, shouldn't good service be rewarded with good tips--not the reverse? Seems like they operate on you have to buy good service--even at the concierge Reserve level. Airport transfers and excursions through Travelocity/ Expedia were great. Bring $10 cash per person to pay immigration fees upon entry-- airfare included the $20 per person fee to leave--wish that would have been clear when booking.

Punta Cana

Pros: Great location and clean
Cons: Variety of food in buffet. Rooms were not properly vacuumed.
Location: We did not go to any nearby attractions. Stayed at the resort the whole time.
Resort is in a great location with white powder beach. All staff members were very helpful and courteous. Our concierge person Milly was great, courteous, hard working and super helpful. She took care of our restaurant reservations even when they were full. Concierge service is only available with the Family Plan. Buffet food is average same type of food every day. it's worth the money spent.

Beautiful hotel but food was disappointing

Pros: The decor.
Cons: The food. Clean seaweed off the beach.
Location: Pretty close to airport.
This was my first visit to DR and after all my planning it didn't turn out as I expected. First, the pros - the resort was extremely beautiful and the staff was quite friendly and helpful. The cons - the food was much to be desired. It was always lukewarm to almost cold and not very pleasing to the eye or our taste buds. We expected more local flavors and this was not delivered. We ate only because we had to. For some weird reason you could get apple juice on one side of resort and not the other. Didn't get to do my tours because of two staff members being untruthful but that's another story. Needless to say I have to return to DR mainly because I didn't get the experience I wanted or expected but I will not be going to this resort. If you do decide to visit this resort take the dance classes, it was the most memorable part of my visit. I almost forgot there was a great amount of seaweed at the beach, not clean as we expected. I didn't even venture in the water.

It is not close to the beach but near the kid zone

Pros: The facilities and the restaurants.
Cons: If I were the manager I would sent the staff in charge of the kid área and the gym activities one week to the Club Med in Punta Cana to copy.
Location: The Reserve facilities and restaurants are by far better than Palma Real but is not on the beach.
The staff in charge of the kid zone is not well prepare to manage the kids.

The Reserve is a superior property

Pros: The suites, the grounds, the pools
Cons: Quality of Food
Location: Location was perfect. about 20 minutes form the airport.
The resort is absolutely beautiful. Grounds are immaculate and well maintained. The suites are nicely furnished with all of the modern conveniences. The outdoor garden was also beautiful. We had our own private concierge who saw to all of our needs. The entire hotel staff was always willing to go the extra mile for us. I would recommend this resort to anyone with intentions of visting the Dominican Republic. Great for couples and families alike. The only slight downside was the food. Some of the restaurants were very good (Rare in particular), others were just so-so.

Expensive for what it is.

Pros: Grounds, bars, pools, were all kept in clean beautiful order. Rooms were very spacious and looked nice. Safe and secure inside the resort.
Cons: Keep mini bar stocked as promised. Better explanation of electrical in room. Have more authentic cultural food choices. Keep prices down.
Location: Island tour was great experience. Water there is cleaner and beautiful.
Dominica should take note of how Mexico does their resorts. You can get better in Cancun for half the price. But I did enjoy a new exotic location. Food was ok but adjusted to the taste of travelers. The pools were great along with the bars. The restaurants and grounds were clean and nice. Staff was helpful at times, but others not. Room mini-bar was not kept stocked as promised. Room cleaning was done, but towels not always replaced and left with none. When checking in, I was suddenly told kids over 12 years old had to have their own room and could not share a room. (Rooms are huge by the way). This was an unexpected expense!! Bottom line, I felt like I had to take care of myself (complain to have things done) and pay American prices for things. Could have gone to Hawaii for the price.
