Happy yet Disappointed

Pros: Not too large, very clean, nice staff
Cons: Do not be deceptive when it comes to serving beverages and serve quality products.
Location: Beach was beautiful. Could not go off site as it really was a bit sketchy.
This is the first disappointing experience with a Riu and our first time in Punta Cana. Overall the facility was nice and the staff very nice. But we were with a group of 16 - from KY so we are bourbon drinkers and we know our bourbon. They filled their Jim Beam bottles with RUM...definitely NOT bourbon and definitely NOT Jim Beam. I'm sure the distillery would be more than happy to know that their product is being either bootlegged or bottles being reused to fill with non-bourbon beverages. Also, the red wine tasted like vinegar. We had one girl and that is all she drinks and she couldn't even stomach it for the week. Riu Macao needs to step up its game and actually serve the beverages it claims to be providing and perhaps use wine that is not spoiled. On a positive note, it helped save us a few extra calories but was very disappointing and if you are cutting corners with this...what else are you cutting corners on. I can't stand liars or lying or deception - thus this really is why I would not recommend this property.

Beautiful Hotel, terrible casino

Pros: The hotel was clean. The view was unreal. With the exception of the casino, the workers were great.
Cons: Put in a honest casino.
I have to say that the Hotel and staff were amazing. If I didn't make the mistake of going to the casino the last day, I would have given the hotel 5 stars. I have read other complaints about the casino, that is attached to the hotel, where the hotel claims they are not affiliated with the casino, but that is BS. Our group went to several shows that were put on by the riu staff, and at the end of the show they always said to "please go to our wonderful casino after the show". Why would they push so hard for us to visit their casino if they were not affiliated? Now to let you know what happened inside this so called casino. My wife and I played black jack for a little while, we lost. No complaints there. We were ready to leave when my brother and his wife were approached by a worker who gave him $20 in free play for their "new game".She led us over to a game that looks like roulette. You dump a shaker of balls into the play area and the balls fall into numbered holes. The idea of the game is you have to get to 100 or more to win. The dealer adds the balls to get number which correspond to points on board. We quickly got to 97,so it seems legit at first but then we started to realize that it is impossible to win.The dealer just makes number up and they distract you so you can't add balls yourself before they remove them.If you could you would see its impossible to do.We walked away after losing a couple hundred dollars. Many people on-line lost thousands. Riu should not allow this!

Awesome resort....but.....

Pros: Staff, Beach, Activities!!!! awesome...also loved that it was Adult only...tired of screaming kids at other locations
Cons: Should be upfront about construction going on....rooms on the construction side should be highly discounted until they complete the project!!!!!!
Location: Never left the resort....
This resort is awesome, staff is terrific, beach is beautiful, activities great....food and drink ok....but unfortunately major construction on the site next door...started every morning at 7:00am including Sat and Sun...went late into the night even had flood lights for working after dark....right outside the terrace window

Five Stars for Riu Palace Macao

I have stayed at this resort several times over the past 7 years, and it continues to exceed all my expectations. The staff is impeccable, the rooms are clean and spacious with effective air conditioning (useful for drying clothes after a day in the water). Leave a $1 or 2 each morning on your bed with a 'thank you' to Housekeeping, and they will really dress up your room well, and enhance your stay. Food is excellent and consistent, and I believe Riu Palace Macao accesses the best stretch of Bavaro beach. Give it a try - you won't regret it.

Beautiful complex

Pros: Clean and easy to get around. There was a walking path along the beach and between the hotels. Very nice place.
Location: There were boats and things to do right at the beach.
The Hotel and staff was excellent. Everything was beautiful, Food excellent, beach was breezy and a bit shaded in the evening. This was the week leading up to Christmas and the light and decorations at all the RIU hotels were amazing. I will be going back here for sure. BTW I have been to Punta Canta, Cancun and other places around 15 times, this place is a must go to.

Great tropical ambiance

There was a mistake with my date of arrival with my room. The flight and room date were wrong therfore o had to pay unexpectedly for an additional night that should have been part of the all inclusive fee. The hotel wrist band only gives access to Riu hotel chain of pools and bars but unfortunately not the all restaurants. If you have family or friends staying in a neighboring Riu hotel you can't eat with them.

Riu Macao, Punta Cana

Friendliest staff I've met, and the food was excellent. The facilities are excellent and also the buffet. The Kristal restaurant was very good also. On the negative side: the seaweed was unbearable and just too much. They tried cleaning it, but couldn't keep up. The Italian restaurant was sub-par and I can't see why they make you wear pants when it's outdoor and very humid. Overall, a good week at the Riu Macao and nice tan.

A relaxing vacation

Cons: No free Internet
We stayed here March 31 to April 6th. Very friendly staff. Hotel is a little dated but is soon to be renovated. Everything in our room worked. We did not go here to stay in the room but to stay at the beach. This is a world class beach. Miles of white sand, no rocks or coral. Plenty of lounge chairs to be had so no having to search. Plenty of palm trees to sit under when you've had enough sun. There are a few vendors strolling the beach but by no means were the intrusive or pushy. The beach bar is great. Raul and Juan friendly and funny. They'll keep you drinks coming. Food at the buffet is average. Nothing special but a decent variety. Food at the a la carte restaurants much better. Don't forget to make reservations in the morning. Overall a great place to relax. Don't be stressed by other negative reviews, neither saw nor heard anybody complaining the whole week we were there.

Last Minute

We booked a last minute vacation to go to DR for 5 days. We arrive on Saturday 4/9 around 4PM in the afternoon. The Hotel grounds are beautiful and the servers/room attendants are terrific. The food not so much and the cleaning not so much either. We have stayed at many RIU's over the last eight years and I can tell you from experieince we are not about all of the hype if the room, service, food and grounds are in good standards we never complain. This hotel does have problems, the food is not that good and the cleaning isn't either there are flies in the main lounge areas because the tables and chairs are not washed on a regular basis. I watched a bird walk across the deli ham at the lunch buffet and waited to see if the supervisor would remove - he didn't. I had to go up to him to ask him to remove so no one would eat it - guess what he still didn't remove it from the buffet - this does not sit well with me. We did have a great time at Bambu where the swim up bar is - this resort is only a minute walk from Macao and seem to have a younger crowd. The beach was beautiful and the drink servers are terrific. I love being able to walk the beach for miles and the shops at the point were nice, a bit pricey but had good deals if you can haggle. I do enjoy going to the RIU chain but I would not go back to this one. Also we met folks at the airport that attempted to stay at the RIU Palace all to find out they were over booked and stated no one seem to want to help them find alternatives in a speedy fashion. It may be the DR way but the front desk staff at these RIU resorts are very lack luster for lack of a better term. The entertainment staff is terrifc daily activities in abundance.
