The resort is definitely catered towards the older crowd, and we aren't young. The food was mediocre at best and the resort still allows smoking. All though the smoking is supposed to be in designsted areas, no one enforces it which was a bummer to say the least. The resort its self is very clean as well as the rooms. It is small enough to walk around but unfortunately not much to do when it rains. There aren't many shows or on property activities to keep you entertained if you wanted to be. I highly advise against the Elite Club upgrade. We found it to not be worth it. There is one bar in the lobby exclusively for that and one on the beach but that isn't really a bar. It's a walk up with nowhere to sit. The beach area is all in the shade that is set a part from the rest of the resort. Those are the only 2 places that have the upgraded liquor package. We had a nice stay but not what we expected.

We love Riu Resorts! They never fail us. The property is immaculate, the staff is wonderful, and the food/drinks are good! We’re always super impressed by the entertainment team - they make everything fun. And the private beach/ocean swimming is amazing! Full transparency: there were some [large] cockroaches in our room… But that wouldn’t stop us from returning AT ALL because everything was otherwise very clean and we had the best time!

This is our second time staying at the resort. The first time we enjoyed it more. We couldn’t get a regular soda anywhere but going to their store to buy it and there was one choice, coke. Some of us can’t drink diet because of allergies to the sweetener. We aren’t much on alcoholic drinks but it was that or water. We were on the front side of the resort and right outside our door all you could smell was sewage. We wanted a king room and got 2 double beds instead. They did do a very nice display in my room, unrequested, for my birthday, which was very nice. Overall we enjoyed our stay but not as much as the first time.

We wished the pools were better maintained and cleaned more regularly. The swim up bar was fun but the pool attached to it made us not want to go in. We also wish there were more food options on the room service menu.

We had travel delays, tried to contact the property and they weren't sure they'd have a room for us, saying we were a no-show. We just were informing them we would be delayed, and the lady on the phone said "We can't help you with that," and nearly hung up. When we arrived, the internet kept dropping us for the first several days, and our key cards kept locking us out of our room. We were quite frankly really exhausted from a busy month of work and just wanted a break, but between flight complications, and the resort not helping us, and fiddly frustrations once we arrived, this was just a messy couple of days getting there and getting situated... Once we got settled in though, we started to enjoy our time, but we were not overly impressed and said we would likely try another resort on a next visit to the DR.

The entire staff was amazing, so friendly and on top of every detail. Check in was the quickest we have ever had. Food was fantastic especially the Elite Restaurant (wow). Swim out room was a must. Where ever we were at the resort a waiter was there asking us what they could get us. Very impressive.
