The large room size & layout was great. It was not spotless, however. One of the sinks was very visibly filthy. There was a lot of sand in the bottom of the shower. The in-room hot tub was also too dirty to use. We liked the high number of restaurants & enjoyed each one we went to we didn’t eat the same meal at the same place twice during our stay, except we did enjoy the breakfast buffet twice. That was amazing! 95% of the staff provided excellent service. The nightly “shows” were lacking. The grounds were beautiful, but not immaculate like some places we’ve stayed, but that didn’t affect our stay. We can imagine what a gem this resort must have been back in its prime.

This is a beautiful resort but you can tell in the rooms that it's aged. The food is pretty good for an all-inclusive. The staff is not very friendly or welcoming but they weren't rude at all either. The had entertainment every evening that we enjoyed.

Loved the resort! The rooms were spotless, service was attentive and friendly and the food and drinks were delicious. My favourite spot was the beach, clean and free of seaweed. I great resort to relax and get pampered. We will l return again someday.

We recently stayed at Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana, and unfortunately our experience did not match the luxury standards advertised. From the moment we checked in, there were significant cleanliness and maintenance issues. The bedding had visible stains upon arrival and those same stains remained present throughout our six-night stay, despite being told the room was cleaned daily. The private terrace pool was dirty when we arrived and was not cleaned until the following day after we called. The terrace and interior floors were extremely dirty, to the point where we felt we needed to wipe our feet before getting into bed. The bathtub shade was broken and sitting inside the tub, making it unusable the entire stay. Noise was also a major issue. The walls and door gaps allowed significant hallway and worker noise late into the night. We had to place a towel at the base of the door to try to reduce sound and airflow. Most concerning, my wife was bitten by bugs inside the room. We saw the bugs ourselves. After being bitten, she experienced fevers, severe headaches, and multiple fainting episodes during the trip, nearly losing consciousness several times. This was extremely alarming and had a serious impact on our ability to enjoy the vacation. We documented these issues with photos and contacted Expedia after our stay. However, we were informed that no compensation could be provided because the hotel was unwilling to authorize it. This property is marketed as a luxury

Excellence El Carmen - Dominican Republic is a wonderful choice for an all-inclusive luxury vacation. It is nicely designed and organized so that you can be either active day and night, or alternatively, nice and quiet. The rooms are large and have beautiful balconies to enjoy. The beach is clean and easy to walk for several km in either direction. The food in the lunch and dinner restaurants is good, not great. The breakfast buffet is extensive with a huge variety available for you to enjoy. The Club pools are nice and quiet, while the main pool and beach are very active. We give a special shoutout to Jerson, bartending at the Club Pool. A major shoutout also goes to our guest services host Marleny. Marleny looked after anything that we needed during our stay, and made the vacation that much more enjoyable. She is an invaluable resource. This was our first experience at an Excellence property, and we look forward to many more in the future!

The rooms and grounds were very clean. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Mareleny was fantastic. Really went out of her way to make sure our stay was great.
