Beautiful resort, safe and friendly staff

You really become close with the staff at VH Gran Ventana. Everyone is genuinely kind. It is within a gated community shared with other resorts so my friends and I (all in our early 20's) really felt it was a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. The service was also very much a 5 star experience!

Nice hotel but....

The hotel is nice , very clean but they need to work on the staff in the bufett . They only serve cofee one time or water and i waited more than 15 min to get some attention to have extra cofee . The animation team needs to work a little better . This hotel is not for age group 20-35 . You are on vacation and the last show finish at 10:30pm no fun after 9pm

Cozy resort close to the beach.

Pros: We always had lots of hot water for our showers after the beach and our room was cleaned daily with regular supplies and towels.
Cons: . The only complaint I would have is that the bed was very hard and not very comfortable and I found it difficult to get comfortable.
Location: We are beach people and loved being able to walk quickly to the beach daily. Everything was so accessible and close as far as buffets, restaurants etc
We really enjoyed our stay at the Gran Ventana Beach Resort. Everyone was very friendly and it was easy to meet fellow Canadians and make new friends. The food was good and sometimes they would warm the plates. Dinner plates were not warmed and so food would cool off more quickly. . The only complaint I would have is that the bed was very hard and not very comfortable and I found it difficult to get comfortable. Otherwise, a really great time at a wonderful resort and we may even consider returning one day. Just hope they upgrade their mattresses if at all possible.

Nice, decent clean resort but not 4 stars...at least in USA.

Gran Ventana is a nice, clean place with good fresh food. We booked a junior suite. When we walked in our bathroom floor was filled with water but that was a PRO in my opinion because of how it was handled. Immediately maintenance came and suggested we move. Five minutes later guest services called and told us the bellman would be right up to move us to a new room. We were moved to an ocean front junior suite in a nice quiet location as requested. After we arrived in the room the guest services person called to see if everything was ok. We told her our sliding door to the balcony was broken and she sent up a repair person immediately and they fixed the door. The junior suite was nice and clean, a bit dated but generally nice. BEDS. I had read about the hard beds but figured "how bad can they be?". Well they were really bad. Hard as a rock. We got a bunch of pillows and two extra blankets which we put under the sheets to make the bed a bit softer. They should definitely change out the mattresses. WIFI. If you want wifi and need it for your job as my husband does...he is in sales....well the free wifi in the lobby is sporadic at best. If there are a lot of people in the lobby using it it falls off and you keep having to go to the desk to get new codes. They don't use the same code for everyone for each day....it's a bunch of different ones. You can't get wifi in your room even if you pay for it even though that's what we usually do when we travel. BEACH. Beautiful beach with large walkable area which we enjoyed. Beach vendors were all over the place but were not pushy and if you said no they didn't drive you crazy. I did buy a couple things and got good deals. Water was cleared of rocks in large areas. You could walk around the corner and get catamaran or jet ski rentals. Very nice. AREA. The area was not as we thought it would be with lots of resorts and the mall to walk through. Oh yes they were there but many of the resorts were out of business. It wasn't what we thought. The mall had shops that contained mostly the same stuff except for a few upstairs shops that were a little better. FOOD. We ate at the three gourmet rooms which were very good with good service. Food in all of those restaurants as well as the buffet was fresh, cold when it was supposed to be and hot when it was supposed to be. Favors were all nice. I did read that the buffet didn't change food very often and thought it was probably similar to other places where we have stayed. However the food really was the same for most all meals. No special dinners at the buffet or theme nights. One thing was awesome and that was the guy who cooked the fresh eggs in the morning. He was amazing and omelette, egg whites, over easy were all excellent. Not that there was anything wrong with the food it was just boring in the buffet. They could easily fix this. ENTERTAINMENT. They could easily step up the entertainment without much cost. It was really lame. During the day there was a basketball toss and a couple bingo type games. Very little games or water sports in the pool. I only saw water aerobics one time and they did it in the shallow area of the pool where everyone could look at you bouncing up and down. They could do some painting classes, water events, bubble events during the day that wouldn't cost much. At night it was really bad. One night they had some little kids on the stage doing the chicken dance. It was awful. We usually just sat around and had an after dinner drink then went to our room and sat on the porch listening to waves. Not that that wasn't wonderful because it was. BOTTOM LINE. Gran Ventana was a nice clean place with good food and nice staff. Very friendly. Grounds were nice. It is not a 4 star in the US. It's a 3 star that could be much better with upgrades to the beds, entertainment and wifi. If they changed up the buffet food a bit more the food would definitely be a 4 star. All in all a good place to go for a really reasonable price which is what we were looking for. Would we go back? Not without some changes. But we're we sorry we went? No....

This hotel served the purpose...providing proximity to the beach

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet
Cons: Poor breakfast, slow internet, food was bad overall
The hotel itself was very average in terms of comfort and cleanliness. The best part was the proximity to the beach, and the various activities that could be organized without leaving the property. The food that was part of the all-inclusive package was pretty awful though, and we found ourselves eating out as much as possible.

Beautiful Hotel, GREAT LOCATION!!

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Quiet
This place was amazing, next to the beach. We found a new spot for the two of us. The people were very polite and for the food, we had 3 restaurants to choose. Room, bathroom and everything else were always clean. For entertainment they had many, as well as excursions. I highly recommend It. To secure our documents we had a private locker. We Will stay again for sure

This hotel was a disappointment.

Pros: Quiet
Cons: Poor breakfast, dirty, food was bad
In a nutshell - Food was not good at all, service and entertainment was non existent and there were roaches and lizards in our room. On the bright side however, the beach was nice.

Hotel is pleasant to stay in

Pros: Free breakfast
Cons: No free Internet
At the beginning, the stay in this hotel was relaxing and very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We were having a great time. However, on Friday and Saturday, when the locals came, it was a different story; It felt as, if we were in a cheap market. They were too loud, and all over the place. there was no longer peace, until Sunday afternoon when they all left. If I was to return to this hotel, I would totally not do it during the weekend.

I would definitely recommend this place

Pros: all-inclusive (including tips), on the beach
We had a great stay at the Gran Ventana- the food had enough variety where it did not get repetitive until about the 5th day (I felt some empathy for foks staying two weeks). Their are (3) restaurants that are alacarte and I would strongly recommend trying them all out; these places upped the ante on the quality of the dining experience exponentially. The entertainment in the evenings while was until ~11:00-11:30 which provided enough time to get in a fulll day of festivities. The staff was wonderful as were most of the guests that we met. I truly enjoyed the tennis lesson I took, the Spanish class my wife partook in and the snorkelling was fantastic. The downside was that the hotel staff by the beach placed a lot of pressure to book excursions explaining that they made commission from it to help subsidize their income. I would have rather paid a higher rate and not been asked to particiapte in the extras. This is my second time in the DR, my first time at Gran Ventana and was my best experience.
