Wonderful stay in Yogyakarta

Visiting Yogyakarta for the first time, I decided to stay at the Royal Ambarrukmo. I am glad I picked this hotel as it was a very comfortable stay with many great amenities. I utilized their fitness area, which had many options for weight training with the machines they had, including dumbbells. The staff was terrific, and I would say one of the best parts of my stay was the breakfast. Never have I seen so many options in a breakfast buffet. I maybe tried a tenth of what they had to offer, and I didn’t have room to try anymore. Make sure you don’t miss the breakfast to get your day started.

The Royal Ambarrukmo was originally built in the 1960s by President Sukarno. Its lobby contains one of the most beautiful and largest mosaics I have ever seen. This is but one of the many details that make this elegant, well laid out, and conveniently located hotel stand out. Rooms are large and well laid out. There's a great pool and children's pool. The restaurant and dining options are among the best of any hotel in Yogya. In short, though reasonably priced, this for me is one of Yogya's best hotels -- with a great staff and management in addition.

The Royal Ambarrukmo is one of my favorite hotels in Yogyakarta and, in fact, all of Indonesia. The staff and the (if I am not mistaken) Belgium-born hotel manager are welcoming, efficient, and always making sure you and your family are having a good time. The breakfasts are among the best in Yogyakarta, and the restaurant in general has a superb mix of Indonesian and European food -- all at a reasonable price. My wife and I regard this hotel as a true gem, and a hotel to which we hope to return many times.

A good hotel with some great features.

It's still a good hotel and is located next to a mall. The staff is excellent, but confusing at times with their English skills. For the most part, the hotel is in great shape, but there are lots of little things that might upset people. It's not a big for me, but the towels were thread worn, or some of the signs were too small to see or placed in odd viewpoints. It's hard to maintain a nice hotel over time, so I can't complain.

Great room, astounding breakfast buffet

The Royal Ambarrukmo is the epitome of a quality hotel, with clean, well appointed rooms, comfortable beds, a beautiful swimming pool, and an astounding breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet was possibly the highlight of my stay--you can get anything you want, from just about any world culture, all freshly prepared and delicious. I especially liked the freshly pressed melon juice, made to order omelets, and crisp pastries. The hotel is next to a shopping mall that sells just about anything you might need. It's only a 15-minute drive from the airport and 20 minutes from Malioboro Street (the heart of Yogyakarta).

Business Hotel Close to Shopping Mall & Airport

The positives are that it's close to airport (although I found that not pleasant for lesuire travel) and it's connected to a shopping mall. Unfortunately that's where the backend compliments end. It's large breakfast buffet has almost hundreds of items yet nothing is spectacular. Don't expect a lively lobby bar; or decent late night dining options. But by far the worst part is the rooms. Old, outdated, poorly lit, and cheap finishing make it feel like meager accommodation. Overall, not the best place to stay in Yogyakarta. Try Amanjiwo.

An Excellent hotel with friendly staff

I have stayed here a few times on business and I enjoyed it tremendously. The hotel is of 5 star standard and it can be seen in the restaurants, cafes, bedrooms, and the staff. As a business traveler, I have problem only with the Business Centre which cannot scan and photocopy. But the staff are ready to help. I will stay here again and will recommend it most highly to my friends.

Very nice hotel, location also very strategic

Love staying there, just bit noisy with motorcycle at night. The staff is very friendly. Used hotel rental car to explore Yogyakarta, the drive was very helpful. the staff at the restaurant need more knowledge about food and need to put sign for the strong food like Durian!

The hotel is very good, next to a big mall. The foreign exchange rate in the hotel is very poor compare with the one which is in the mall next to the hotel. The morning free breakfast is the big plus. The staff is very friendly. The will make sure almost all guests in the dining area is enjoying their food. They suggest local delicacies. Very friendly. I am very impressed with their friendly attitude.

The hotel is one of Yogya's oldest but recently refurbished. Spacious rooms and nice grounds make it very comfortable. Staff are super friendly and always helping. If I had an issue it was quickly fixed. Seems to be a family hotel so expect kids. The pool is nice and there is a shopping centre next door.

Nice hotel in good location

Excellent location: next to shopping mall with a wide selection of restaurants (and a food court!) and relatively closer to Borobudur than from the city central and close to the airport. Great that hotel has its own car with driver to rent for visit to Borobudur for reasonable (won't say cheap) price. Wonderful breakfast buffet. Comfortable spacious room. Although we paid for Mount Merapi view room, we saw only the garden and pool from our 3rd floor room (possibly 4th or 5th floor will have the Merapi view). Front desk staff had an attitude at check-in and check-out--absolutely not hospitable. Didn't quibble about the room because it was only a one-night stay.
