They advertised more fancy then what they really are. Its a ok place to stay and have no problem with high prices and very old fashioned ways for a vacation oh ya their private hot pools plan on only 30 minutes and then you have to get out.

Thank you for your review Cathy. We are truly sorry that we were not a fit for you. We try very hard to make sure our guests have a great experience. In response to your concern for a 30 minute soaking time: that is a safety issue for people who do not soak often. The heat can have a negative on certain people. However, we always tell our guests that they can soak another time during the day. Sincerely, Gail Owner

The best thing about this hotel is it's awesome location--just one block from the Lava Springs Hot Pools! The hotel itself is a historic building right on the river. It shows it's age a bit, but it's comfortable. The choices for breakfast are much better than your usual free breakfast! We weren't impressed by the on-site hot tubs the hotel offered, but again, you can walk a block in your bathrobe (and not one person looks at you wierd) and get in to the town's hot pools that are super nice, with showers, changing rooms, refreshments, etc. The fee was $6 for all day. The bathrooms were recently remodeled and were very nice! The furniture in the bedroom was a little odd, but the bed was comfortable and we had no issues. Every staffer we ran into was so polite and helpful. We couldn't have asked for more.

Thank you for your review of the Riverside Inn and Lava Hot Springs. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. We have been very hard at work restoring the hotel and in the process of renovating the soaking and spa area. We would love to have you come back sometime and experience all of our improvements! Again, thank you. Sincerely, Elizabeth Tuttle Hotel Manager

Nice town shame about the hotel

The hotel needs upgrading .Breakfast was poor. Had shared bathrooms which is unheard of in the 20th century.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your comments. We are sorry that you did not thoroughly enjoy your stay. Although shared bathrooms are now "trendy" and were very common in historic hotels, we are eliminating them and should be done with our renovation in the next few months. Do come back and see us!

This was an unexpected treasure. It gives the Bed and Breakfast type experience while having access to their wonderful mineral baths. The adjoining restaurant provided just a fantastic eating experience. We had live music and gourmet meal, totally unexpected!

Teddy Roosevelt slept here, he don't be back.

Pros: The bed as amazingly comfortable considering it looked extremely bumpy.
Cons: The in building hot pools should be renovated or removed. The walls need to be re-plastered. Breakfast needs to be layer out to eat. dining expensive!
Location: Wonderful city hot pools are a winter delight. idaho Falls or Salt Lake City have some great sites and entertainment.
Sat his is a 1917 hotel that has some bygone glory, but needs some modern touches. The hot pool rooms in the basement are not hot nor fit it step into. We had hoped to soak in the building, decided to walk the block and a half to the city pools and pay the $7.50 a person, and counted it a bargain. The musty smell needs fresh air. The moose in the main room Ned's a new coat of skin and hair. It would help if the parking lot had a coat of asphalt and less ice. The furniture in the Jr Suite needs a good cleaning. The electric free standing fire was fun to walk around in the middle of the room. On the positive side the room was warm for a 100 year old building, the fan could be much quieter. The breakfast is a get out of the fridge yourself. I know Lava is not a five star resort town, this was a two star hotel in a two star city charging four star prices. It maybe another 30 years before we try Lava again. It is sad as the hot pool is a winter delight.
