Detatched, acogedora casa de campo con fabulosas vistas a la montaña

Construida en la década de 1920 por la artista y bordadora Ann Macbeth, High Bield es una casa extraordinaria que fue completamente renovada hace unos años. Fue construido en lo alto de la caída y tiene vistas de Brotherswater y Ullswater y ofrece paseos desde la puerta hasta High St, Helvellyn, St Sunday Crag, Fairfield y muchos otros lugares populares. Casi todas las habitaciones tienen una vista espectacular, especialmente la habitación gemela que originalmente era el estudio de un artista. A wonderful place to stay for a family holiday in the Lakes. Not easy to drive to so good for people who want to do lots of walks and exploring in the area. There is a beautiful waterfall only about 15 mins walk from the house. We also went swimming in Brotherswater. The view from the house was amazing and the house itself was very well equipped with plenty of games and books available.

This is such a special place to stay. Views are absolutely stunning and the house is delightful. Loved the bedrooms. But if you're used to wide, flat Western Australian roads like we are, just be aware the drive up is not for the fainthearted! Wished we had longer to stay, would definitely come back if we had the opportunity, this was our favourite of all the places we stayed in the UK.

Fabulous, highly recommended

Beautifully situated house in a beautiful area! Equipped with all conveniences. We were pleasantly surprised by the outdoor space/garden next to and behind the house.Highly recommended for a wonderful stay in Lake District.The partly unpaved road to the house is fabulous but bumpy. Despite doable, even with a lower car, so don't let that put you off!We loved our stay and are inspired by the nature in this beautiful area. Lots of walking paths It was more than worth the trip from the Netherlands.

Lovely cottage full of character with truly amazing views which we all enjoyed although we were not blessed with good weather throughout. The cottage is well equipped so even when the weather isn't so good there's still plenty to enjoy. Husband and friends enjoyed several walks from the property. Getting up the drive in the car the first time was a bit scary so easier just to leave it parked as walking is definitely easier.

Fabulous, inside and out!

The location and this well-equipped, homely cottage made for the perfect stay. Our host Fiona couldn’t do enough to help answer questions and help us as our plans changed a little during the week. Five stars and we would love to stay at High Bield again sometime!

Great location

Overall an excellent place high on a hillside above the village.The cottage comes with a bit of history and bar a couple of minor snags we enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic location with red squirrels !

We had a great stay, big enough to not feel cramped, clean, warm, fantastic view and we saw red squirrels every morning! Very narrow steep drive so would bring a car with decent ground clearance to not hit the bash plate when driving over the water drain

Fantastic break in a lovely home

We had an amazing mini break. The house was warm and homely with plenty of space for us and 5 kids and all the amenities we needed. The drive up the track was a bit challenging but the location was worth it, the views from the garden and windows are amazing. It was awesome starting each day watching the birds and squirrels in the garden. After long walks it was nice to sit around playing some of the many board games and checking out the impressive collection of books. The log burner was nice to have but the house was warm enough so we didn’t need to use it. As a base we found it very convenient and were able to explore all over the Lake District without ever having to travel too far. The host was friendly and very accommodating. We had a great time and would love to come and stay again.

Amazing time

Great location, don’t be put off by long drive to cottage, it’s well worth it. Loads of walks and boat trips, easy drive to Ambleside and Grasmere. Loved it, just loved it.

Beautiful location and area

We enjoyed the beautiful area. The cottage is in a beautiful location with a view of lakes and mountain ridges. There are several hiking trails in the area where you can also walk with children. We had some questions during our stay and they were answered quickly. There are quite a lot of things in the cottage, so it takes some puzzling where you can put your own groceries, for example.

High Bield Family holiday

This was our second holiday at High Bield - we stayed 2 years ago. It is a very special place to stay as it is in a wonderful location. We only used the car twice during the one week we stayed because all the walks and cycle rides could be done from the house. Windermere station was only a short drive away so we could easily pick up family arriving from London. Weather wasn’t what we expected in early June - warm for the first couple of days then much cooler with rain for the rest of the week but this didn’t stop us walking and enjoying ourselves. We walked to Hart Crag which was a great 6 hour walk and also did the picturesque shorter Silver Crag walk which was more low level. We managed to have a few bbq’s at the beginning of the week then when it was cooler we enjoyed the warmth of the log burner inside playing board games and relaxing in front of the tv. It is a place where we have made lots of lovely memories and we all want to return. Thoroughly recommend High Bield for a great place to stay. One of the highlights was the US fighter jets flying low level in our valley doing training exercises - they flew over 3 different days. Great excitement for everyone.
