Oaxaca Quinta Real

Pros: The staff, the history of the hotel, the pool, the breakfast buffet (not included in price of room, unfortunately), free Wifi, clean, clean, clean...
Cons: Can't think of a thing.
Location: Go visit the Tree of life, swim in the natural mineral pools on top of mountain, take photographs ... the light is magical. Mt. Alban, Unesco WH site.
After a week's stay at the Quinta Real in Oaxaca, I firmly recommend this luxury hotel. The staff was warm, courteous, responsive and prompt. The hotel rooms were quiet, comfortable, and spotless. The poolside bar was a great place to relax after exploring the ancient ruins of Mt. Alban, the fabulous museums and architecture of Oaxaca, all within walking distance of this centrally located historic gem of an old convent, now hotel. And if you are having an event (we had a wedding), the old chapel converts into the perfect space, accommodating hundreds for a sit down meal with lots of room left over for the dance floor... Definitely, one of the top ten hotels for this world traveler... If you are going to Oaxaca, I highly recommend this luxury hotel. Personally, I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Beautiful historic facility and setting; good location for tourism and shopping. Wish we could have stayed much longer!!

Pros: Quiet
Cons: No free Internet
There seem to be three levels of room quality. We stayed in the cheapest of the three. It may be a better value to stay in one of the upper levels, as they include a fabulous buffet breakfast, free internet (I think), and coffee pots in the room. Separately, these sevices (internet and breakfast) are expensive. We would have loved an easy chair in the room also. Overall, we were very pleased.

Excellent!

The hotel was more than I expected. The way they have maintain the convent and the service was great.

Over rated

The grounds were spectacular. Steeped in history and spirituality. we were surrounded by beauty outside the room. Unfortunatley the hotel room we had, backed up to a street with a bar directly across from us and the noise was tremendous til 3 in the morning. the staff was indifferent and a bit arrogant. They were less than helpful with a much needed internet connection. If we were to go back, we would definitley ask for an interior room facing the magnificent courtyard. However, I doubt that we will try this particular hotel ever again

Perfect place to stay to explore Oaxaca

The Camino Real was amazing?my husband and I spent the week there to celebrate his birthday. It was so beautiful (amazing gardens and architecture of the old monastery) and the staff was extremely friendly. It was very romantic- and located near all the best sights. Everyone in Oaxaca was friendly, but the hotel staff really went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We took several day trips, and the concierge even set us up with a cooking class with a local chef. we had a great time learning Oaxacan recipes. The pool at the hotel and the breakfast were also highlights. A charming and romantic experience- we will definitely return!

Beautiful hotel, but not a 5 star

The good:\nGreat location\nThe best security\nBeautiful grounds\nMostly helpful staff\n\nThe bad:\nNot very clean\nQuestionable billing practices\nVery expensive compared to other regional hotels of this quality\n\nThe worst:\nPublic areas were often closed for private events including the pool area. Not only was this awkward, key facilities were unusable for extended periods of time.\n\nRecommendation: stay for one night just to see the grounds, check your bill very carefully on checkout, and then move to another hotel.

El Camino Real Oaxaca

Stunningly beautiful restoration and great value for the money. The staff was gracious and helpful and the pool was very large and nice. There are four individual courtyards overflowing with flowers and each had it's distinct qualities. You feel like being in an oasis from the town. Even the street front rooms were not noisy and we would love to stay here again.
