Was staying for eight nights, and was very happy with the room and the facilities. The staff were generally excellent and very helpful, including the housekeeping staff,and the only exception to this was the man who checked me in on arrival. Not as much as a word of welcome,or a smile, or indeed eye contact of any kind. And most certainly not interested in any form of conversation other than moving forward with the check-in procedure. His only interest seemed to be in getting the form signed, and charging me £96 extra for car parking during my stay. On that subject, the car park charges are extortionate in my opinion, and the overflow car park to the rear is quite isolated and surrounded by trees. It certainly is not somewhere that I would be happy leaving my car. I encountered the same check-in man a few nights into my stay, when I return late at night, and there was only him and I in the foyer. But again he didn’t as much as look up from his desk,or greet me in anyway as I entered, or stood about waiting on the very slow lift. As I say, the other staff I had dealings with were very welcoming and polite, but I just felt this particular employee needs a customer care course. Overall, my stay was very pleasant indeed, and I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel, or to return here in the future. I also felt that the room rate for the period I was there was very reasonable. It is an older style Hotel, but I did not feel it was in any way rundown or tired.

Traditional hotel. Rooms could do with updating but on the whole a nice hotel with lots of traditional features of a hotel with so much history. Conveniently situated in a quiet area but still only a 5 minute walk from all Harrogate has to offer.

The room was very small with a single bed that rolled around. It was nice to have a bath tub but I thought I had booked and paid for a double bed and I was put in a very tiny room. Didn’t seem like good value for money.

Room was not fit for human occupation. Terrible damp and mould smells - can still taste that in the back of my throat a week later and we only spent 5 minutes in there before leaving for another hotel. Room looked like it was furnished from a bad charity shop. The most dissappointing thing is that this hotel actually thought it was ok to put people in this room in the first place. We had booked months earlier so they have no excuse. Be very careful with this hotel, because they advertise that the rooms are refurbished, but then they try and put you somewhere that is a total health hazard. Disappointingly, they only refunded just over 50% of the cost (wish we hadn't prepaid). I'm just pleased we got out straight away.

The Old Swan Hotel Harrogate

Nice location in Harrogate and good sized room and bathroom. Could do with new windows and extractor fan in the bathroom. Drinks and meal a bit on the expensive side. + Carpark on site also a bit pricey but a least you're not having to worry about street parking. Overall a good 6 day break.
