Cosy stone built barn conversion with rural Cornish views and near the sea

Just half a mile from the large golden sandy beach at Porth and even less to Whipsiderry beach on the coast road just north of Newquay, this is one of a small group of single and two storey cottages with Cornish country views. The cottage is also just a couple of miles or so from the rest of Newquay's surfing beaches including Fistral and Watergate Bay. Watergate Bay is also known for it's kite surfing and was until a few years ago the home to one of Jamie Oliver’s 'Fifteen' restaurants. It was also once the setting for the ITV series Echo Beach staring Jason Donovan. There's a footpath near the cottage to the bay. For those who enjoy a walk it's even nearer at around a mile.

Chy Byghan is one of a number of cottages converted from stone built around a central courtyard. The original barns are not far off 200 years old! Snuck into one corner, the double glazed front door opens into a small entrance hall with a refurbished shower room and toilet with hand basin on one side and electrically heated towel rail. A double bedroom facing the inner courtyard is on the opposite side. At the rear of the cottage, a door leads through to a bright living room and kitchen/dining area with a natural decor and colour scheme and two windows looking across the road to fields and the countryside.

The property has just undergone a refresh for 2024. There is a seating area with a sofa bed (with a mattress designed to be good for your back) and a kitchen/diner with a dining table, bench seats and a galley style kitchen area with light coloured fitted units and a washing machine. The cottage floors are high quality wood effect with a rug also in the lounge area. It also has built in cupboards at the end and a new (for 2024) SMART TV where you can watch your favourite channels such as the BBC iplayer and Netflix and more if you have an account. The shower room floor is non slip.

There's a large shared car park at the rear of the group of cottages.

What's nearby: If you want to give the car a rest and help the environment, then jump on a bus. There is normally a service that runs along the road next to the cottages during the summer months and an all year round one from the end of the road.

Porth beach offers safe bathing and is around a ten minute walk by road from the cottage, as are a pub that serves food, cafes and the coastal footpath.

Whipsiderry beach is at the end of the road and took us about 7 minutes to walk to with a 5 year-old and a nine year-old so we think that's not bad! It's in a cove with steps down and has got caves and rock pools to explore and a vast sandy beach when the tide is out you can also access it this way if you are careful, when the tide is out and it a good surfing beach which not that many know about!

There's a convenience shop in the camp site just a few minutes walk down the road which you can also use. Local hotels in the area welcome non-residents to their restaurants. golf, horse riding and ten pin bowling are all available nearby. There is also the Mermaid Inn which serves good food every day on Porth beach.

The cottage has many features including a microwave, kettle and toaster and a travel cot. Electricity and heating is inclusive as is free Wi-Fi. Ideal for a couple but for a value holiday it can sleep up to 4 (2+2 that is a double bed and a double sofa bed*).

New for 2024!!! *Bed linen is also provided for all new bookings made from March 2024 but if you want to save yourself some money choose to bring your own bed linen and save £20 if 2 people are staying or £30 for 3 or 4. Just let us know once your have booked and we'll discount the price. We also offer a 5% discount off our nightly rates for all stays over 7 days.

Want to bring your pet? We're happy to accept well behaved dogs and have even been known to let some other types of pet stay. We once had a parrot enjoy a week at the cottage! Like most properties there is a pet fee which is currently £22 per pet with a maximum of two dogs.

*For all new bookings made from March 2024

January Get-Away..
Ian was very helpful given Vrbo platform comms was awful (App may be better). Had a lovely couple of days stay and excellent local dog walking and Beach a short walk too. Cottage was clean, comfortable and well appointed. Well positioned for local coastal adventuring. Would recommend arriving in day light as the car park is not lit and access for unloading everything was not that straightforward! Otherwise a great stay.

Lovely Location
Good location both rural, plus close to Porth beach and my relations. However, the accommodation was very poor. Grubby, tired and shabby. An armchair I needed to cover with my dressing gown, not fit to sit on, corroded hot plates etc etc etc. I have photos to evidence my comments. Saving grace, effective storage heaters!

Stress Free!
I took my teenage son to Cornwall so he could experience the joys of this county as I did when I was his age! Jill and Ian made the stay stress free! A lovely little cottage, arrival and check in was easy. Directions took the stress out of getting there. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Really clean and good storage. Easy to get to all the places we wanted to visit. A thoroughly enjoyable week, thank you!!

Another amazing stay
2nd year here and 3rd year booked as place is fantastic (lovely and clean) and location the best we have seen since travelling Cornwall. Hosts are great and it was a lovely touch to get there and find milk and tea kit waiting. Communication throughout was great and me and my wife had a fantastic holiday and can't wait for our next one.
