We were a bit disappointed in our stay. The home was recently updated in good taste, but the bones are still a rickety old cabin with a closed in / closed off feel – not the best for big groups interacting or feeling immersed in the pines. There were areas of the deck that felt like the planks would break through while walking. The firepit area was overgrown with weeds and not as inviting as the pictures. The living room had a broken recliner. The kitchen supplies for preparing large group meals were minimal. Overall was just not the luxury experience advertised and priced at compared to the many other VRBO’s we’ve utilized.
Additionally, the communications were not the best. We received lots of automated emails from vrbo and the owners, lots of redundancy, and often conflicting information. One of the last communications gave instructions for using the firepit but didn’t mention the area was under extreme fire danger and all fires were strictly prohibited that weekend. We brought our own shower supplies because one of the communications said they would not be included (unusual for a “luxury” rental), but they were indeed provided, and I did re-read in another email where it did say they would be provided. One instruction sheet said to strip the beds, the other said don’t worry about it. They did want all dishes clean and trash out of the home which was more old school compared to more recent trend in VRBO’s that behave more like hotels in this regard – obviously don’t leave the property damaged or excessively messy, but the cleaning crew handles these basics. There was also definitely much more of a “don’t do this, this, or that or you will be charged this” than a warm welcoming vibe in most communications.
