What a great experience! We (mom, dad and 3 kids 10, 12 and 14) stayed two nights to use as a jumping off point for Monteverde attractions. Wish we had booked a whole week there to unwind and relax.....peaceful surroundings, excellent service, and amazing farm to table food including home grown coffee! Conveniently located in a valley (roads with 4x4 no problem) near the cloud forest town of Santa Elana and the adventure parks. We also liked that the location because it was dry, comfortable and sunny whereas had we stayed in the cloud forest, it would have been wet, cloudy and cool.

Worth the Drive!

Pros: The family that hosted us The farm and the tour we received The meals and the restaurant set-up The comfortable cabana The fishing The soccer field
Cons: Nothing. A great experience.
Location: Monteverde and the cloud forests and ziplines are within 30 minutes, but the location is really idyllic, located down the San Luis Valley.
Rancho de Lelo was one of the most memorable parts of our Costa Rican visit. After seeing several beaches and tourist destinations, staying here allowed us to experience rural Costa Rica in a powerful way. The owners were incredible hosts, offering outstanding meals, pleasant company, and a super-informative tour of the tilapia ponds and sustainable farm. Our family was seemingly welcomed into their family and yet were simultaneously treated like valued guests. While the drive from Monteverde takes some time and is a touch perilous for those not used to Costa Rica's hilly and bumpy mountain roads, it is absolutely worth leaving the busy city of Monteverde and experiencing the "peace and tranquility" of the surrounding countryside. Would definitely return....

We had such a great visit at Rancho de Lelo. Although about a 30 minute drive to the more tourist destinations in Monteverde, the experience was well worth the drive. The food was delicious and the family was very friendly and eager to help in any way.
