Welcome to Nichinan.

Three months ago there was a major earthquake which hit Kumamoto. Takachiho Gorge is in Kumamoto prefecture. I was scheduled to arrive some 2 weeks later but had to postpone trip till now coz many roads were damaged.

Currently some part of this gorge is still closed. The boat rowing below also closed as water is too high I was told. Still, it's been a place I had wanted to see for many years and am happy to finally made it and hence marked the completion of my tour of all the 47 prefectures of Japan! Hurray!!!

Without the boats and people in the water, it is a little difficult to appreciate how big the gorge is! May be next time!

Udo Jingu is just next to the sea and there are interesting rocks near the shrine. If I look closely at the bottom left corner you can see a circle of rope which I was told if you managed to throw the stones (which you can buy from the shrine, 5 for ¥500) into the circle then your wishes will be granted.
