From SFO

Great location to Centro Histórico DF. This is the old Spanish Mansion of Hernan Cortes (Spanish conquistador) son. We stayed on the 2ND floor in the Suite facing the street. Great view of the famous Bellas Artes Opera House , Alameda Park. Some what noisy in the mornings, trucks and normal large city noise. Ok Trade off for being downtown. Overall good experience.

Great hotel, great staff

After staying in many big and great hotels all over Mexico City I finally found "My personal Hotel" in Mexico City. Great staff, helpful and polite. I will not change this hotel anymore. The breakfast buffet is like lunch buffet, simply incredible. Room is absolutely very clean and that is important for my wife, specially the bathroom. Great place and I will always recommend..

Best hotel service ever! I arrived at 9am and they gave me my room right away, no waiting until 3pm!

The hotel is pretty conveniently located but it's very outdated and requires serious maintenance, literally, the paint is pilling off the walls. As well, I'm not sure who designed it but there is no privacy in room/bathroom/shower, you can see everything from any angle of your room, which I don't find very comfortable. Hotel stuff was nice and helpful but I wouldn't come back

2 Canadians and 4 Brits Discover Mexico City!

We enjoyed this historical hotel ambience and its central location to many sights and restaurants. The staff were excellent and attentive and especially Roberto who could not do enough to make our visit special. We will recommend this property to anyone visiting exciting but busy Mexico City.

We stayed in this hotel back in 2012 and it was a great hotel to stay in. Rooms were in great condition. Not this time. The Hotel is in need of a remodeling pretty bad. The room we were in was in bad shape. Paint peeling off the walls, the wood flooring in the bathroom was rotted through. The "free wifi" is a sham, it does not work most of the time. However, the hotel personnel are courteous and nice. It is in a great location. Management needs to work on condition of the hotel.

Quaint gem in a great location

Sweet, quaint hotel with wonderful character. The staff were always eager to please, the restaurant situated in the hotel's courtyard was an unexpected surprise and the beds were comfortable. The hotel's pictures don't show you how interesting and beautiful the building. The two down sides were the Internet which was very slow in the room (but perfect if you stepped into the courtyard just outside the room door) and the bathroom which didn't have great ventilation. Overall, a wonderful find for a reasonable price.

Don't stay here if you want a good nights sleep!

Don't stay here if you want a good nights sleep.! On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night the third floor bar/nightclub blasts music until 2 AM, so loud that is impossible to sleep, no matter which of the two floors of guests rooms you are staying in. While the room is comfortable and the staff is very accommodating, this hotel needs to decide if it wants to be a hotel or a bar nightclub. It can't be both and expect to have any hotel guests return!

You won't be able to get any sleep!

Because of the rooftop Bar/Nightclub and the pounding, pulsating music they blast from their second floor rooftop that is heard from every guest room...I would NOT stay at this hotel again. It's too bad because the beds are comfortable, nice linens, helpful front office staff and the location across from Alemeda Park is nice. The nightclub is open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and the music is blasted until 2 AM. The Hotel de Cortes needs to decide if they are going to continue as a hotel or just be a nightclub...because They can't do both and expect to have guests to get any sleep with this pulsating loud music.

Boutique experience

A great boutique experience! The hotel is located in the heart of downtown, close to the Cathedral and presidential palace. You can have breakfast literally outside your hotel room. And you are at a short distance from a local street vendors.

Recently and with style refurbished patio to die for. Nice and caring staff. Terribly overpriced though. Would not recommend Taxi service either.

Not so good

Hotel staff is untrained. Upon arrival, I was told there will be no breakfast area due to a conference being held. Next day, tried to get a hot shower, no one told me you need to wait over ten minutes for the water to heat up, therefore…cold shower. Day one breakfast was awful, day two same. Simple breakfast orders were way beyond their capabilities. Did any of the staff care, you would think, but no. My room was right over a busy street, windows were paper thin, so every honk and there were many, sounded like the car was in my bed. There is more to complain about…but are they worth it. “Sucks” comes to mind, as I write this review. Rooms were kept clean.

Hotel with lots of character in downtown Mexico

The hotel is located in a very old colonial building. The rooms are nicely done, with modern fixtures. All staff is fantastic: doormen, reception, etc. It is very quiet at night and feels very safe.

Could be nice, but it is a long way from that now

Location is good, but not great. Very busy street. Not completely "centro" and not something else. Main thing is the bar on the roof. Either they need to be just a hotel or be just a bar. The thumping noise and flow of non-guests prevents sleep for any but the deepest sleepers. The rooms are run down. Walls are cracked, bathroom wood floors are rotted or rotting, floorboards bent, in shower the same. Rooms smell of mildew. Wi-fi service is very poor in the rooms if you can get a signal at all. Their response to when we raised the issue of the poor standards of maintenance and how run down the rooms are…"it is a boutique hotel". Like that is a license to offer a poor product?

A Return Visit to a Remodeled Hotel

I have been staying at the de Cortes since 1975. I love this hotel, its history and its location. It is under new ownership since I last stayed there. It has been upgraded to a more sophisticated level. It is a little more expensive than in the past; but, only in keeping with its new ambiance.

Acceptable hotel very close to a Metrobus station

The hotel is very convenient near from the historical center and particularly being located very close to the Hidalgo Metrobus station which brings us directly to the airport. Having said that, internet access and shower in the room did not work very well and we once had to change the room (In general Wifi wave seems to be very weak in the rooms.) We could not sleep well as it was very noisy specially at Friday night.
