In the first place, I did request a 2 double-bed room but I got a king bed instead. There was only one nightstand, I had to use the ironing board as 2nd nightstand. The bed sat high, but there was a stool to get to it. The carpet had not been cleaned for some time, the tiles in front of the fireplace were cracked. Many of the wall sockets had seen better days with plugs having difficulty to attach to these sockets. There was only one additional pillow. Breakfast was not included in the price (typical for most places in that area). On the positive side, it had a nice balcony by the garden. Considering the condition of accommodations at Mendocino, it gets an OK grade. It would not have gotten this grade in other, more competitive locations.

Thank you for your review. All of our rooms are unique and charming in their own ways. Each rooms configurations are not the same and some rooms do not have a bed side night stand. Making each room unique and a one of a kind. We do have limited rooms with 2 double beds and we apologize if we did not have the rooming configuration requested. Some rooms do have a King bed and a pull-out sofa bed. If you have a special need or request please contact our Front Desk we can help you with your special requests prior to arrival. We try and make each guests stay here special.

Mendocino is an interesting little town with wonderful ocean view. This hotel has a public upper balcony that takes full advantage of it. The downstairs public areas are also very nice, but most of the tables are off limits with a sign stating reserved for restaurant patrons. The basic room is rather small with the bathroom across the hall. WiFi works well and the restaurant is actually quite good. Had breakfast there, but it is not included in the room charge.

Second time staying with our dog. Got the same room as last year and it was as dirty as before. They told us last year they were updating the furniture but the same couch with the same stains (we put a blanket on it to sit) was still there and the room smelled. I understand a hotel from the 1870's may not be sparkling but this was a much newer section. Location is great but they need to do some cleaning.

We are working hard at deep cleaning all of our rooms. It is unfortunate that the sofa bed in your room was stained. Good news is that we have new sofa beds coming soon. We hope that you will give us another chance as we loved having you and your pet stay with us.

Great room, great ambiance

Pros: See above
Cons: We visited during what we thought was an amazing profusion of flowers. I can't imagine any more improvement.
Location: The location is right in the heart of the commercial area. Everything is within walking distance. The coast is just down the road a couple blocks.
My wife and I stayed the night on Memorial Day weekend and had a wonderful experience. From walking into the lobby of this historic hotel, to the kindness of the staff, the Mendocino Hotel was excellent. At first, when we found out our rooms were not going to be in that building itself, we felt a little disappointed. We were pleasantly surprised, however, when we pulled up around back and walked into another beautiful entryway and room that had a fireplace, a porch, walk-in closet, and a king-sized 4 poster bed. Only one complaint: we were hungry for dinner around 8:25pm and noticed the downstairs restaurant posted their closing a 9:00pm. Needless to say, we were a little put off by that discrepancy. Overall, this is a quaint, comfortable hotel that I highly recommend and will do so when I have friends and family coming this way.

Nice hotel in the middle of the main drag

Pros: Price, location, staff
Cons: weather stripping on the patio doors
Location: In the middle of the main street, great location for shopping or walking down to the cliff. No easy to get to beach access unless you drive
Nice hotel at a decent price. I would call it quaint! European bathrooms is a little something new to get used to, but the in room sink was fine for a one night stay. I would only suggest bringing ear plugs if you are a light sleeper because the restaurant downstairs is open pretty late and there is no weather stripping on the doors leading to the balcony, so you can hear wind. It's an older hotel, but charming for a couples weekend, might not be great for small families needing some space. Loved that they had board games for use and the tequila infused cheesecake is AMAZING!

Beautiful and Unique

The antiques located throughout the hotel were wonderful. Sitting by the fireplace with real logs burning was very romantic, only they were short staffed and any food or beverages you wanted in the lobby, you had to go to the bar and order for yourself. The rooms also were wonderful, full of antiques and a very comfortable bed. The only problem was we were close to the kitchen and heard lots of banging, so a good night sleep was not available until the kitchen was closed. It was also warm in the room. A fan of would have helped. Other than these few quirks, we enjoyed our stay. L&L.
